SCAMP!

As I mentioned, we went out today to find some things for the turtle tank, like plants and substrate. We got neither. Instead we got this at a store called Sea Oddities.




Pretty odd sea creature, eh? He is certainly cute enough, but we had just left another private pet store nearby that had some 8 week old Marshall's, and we resisted the urge. When the owner of this store said he was Canadian, it was a done deal. Prissy was a Real Canadian, and we've been looking for another one for years. He is feisty, loving, playful and super cute. While I was holding him at the store, he ran up my arm and nipped my ear, exactly like Bella did, 9 years and 25 ferrets ago. His claws were so sharp he puncture my lip just batting at me. And when I held him up for that first pic, he stopped squirming and posed for it.

No idea what to name him yet. Crikey, 3 new critters in 2 days.

Just gave him a weigh. 1 lb 7.4 oz. That's what Abita and Lola weigh. Beedee is 4 in a couple days and Lola is 2 1/2.

Definitely an oddity in a sealife store! He either needs a sea creature name. Or Oddities makes me think David Bowie or Ziggy Stardust lol Very cute!!!!

He is absolutely beautiful and the reason I only buy pet supplies on line. I stopped to buy treats for Zoey and that is how Zeus became a family member.  Now I avoid all pet shops that sell pets. It is way too dangerous!  That face would be so very hard to ignore.  Has he told you his name yet?

He's a kook. 90% spaz, but I can cuddle him to sleep in my arms. One wrong move and BAM he;s back at it.. I love the lil brat

For now, Scamp seems to be safe in the cage with Abita and Mogli. Pandora has not shown any aggression toard him, but she likes sleeping in a pile. In the cage, Scamp can often be found sleeping on the bare plastic floor. Abita is kind of loner, and Moges is so laid back he can sleep with anyone.

Yoshi has been all up in his grill whenever they meet. We keep Scamp in our room for now with a plywood barrier, but Everyone can get over it but Scamp. Rosa will cause problems too, but Yoshi will actually hunt Scamp down and beat him up. Jaffa and Yoshi went at it when they met, but Yoshi ended up being his protege. Yoshi has the chance to mentor Scamp, but if he's not careful, Scamp will one day kick his butt. Scamp is only 11 weeks but much more solidly built and already 730g.
He's doing well bunking with Mogli, Abita and even Lola, who was being a bit of a pain before. Pandora never bothers anyone, but Yoshi likes sleeping with her because she's warm and has a big belly, lol.

Yoshi still don't like him. But I'm betting he'll be 2 lb by the end of the week. I need to weigh Yoshi. Last time, a couple months ago, he was 2 3/4 lb. This morning Scam had Mogli by the throat, just playing. Mogli likes him. Moges is the submissive male. I think Yoshi is ticked because we've been bunking Mogli with Scamp in the ferret nation, and Yoshi and Moges were buddies. Animals may not be "self aware," but don't no one ever tell me they have no emotions. So we now have to alternate Mogli between Yoshi and Scamp, without any input from Mogli, lol. MAYBE that will bring Yoshi around.

Yoshi is acting like Prissy.. he hates his new brother.. I don't suspect they will ever be friends.. but the day will come when Scamps will stick up for himself and Yoshi will be dethroned.. Yoshi is just teaching Scamps how to be a bully.. I guess four years in between is too long to introduce new ferrets.. thank goodness MOgli and Beetie like Scamps.. so he has wrestle buddies..lol

Scamp is well over 2 lb now. But he's still young and respectful of his elders. He will defend himself and back away. except yoshi wants him dead

Yesterday he was 2 lb 4 oz. Yoshi was 2 lb 8.3 oz. They are the same length.

He's becoming quite the climber. Last night he got on the bed, into a nightstand and ate half a foam ear plug. He got lax and this morning we found it in his litter box. He's been fine this afternoon. Dar swears she closed the drawer...
He had been confined to the bedroom when Yoshi was out, but now he's locked out unless someone is in there.

In all the years of being owned by ferrets I only had one that resembled this.
AT the time I had Silveretta, who was quite old and only eating baby food, and Mika & Mischief who I had adopted when I first moved to Florida.
The I adopted Dexie, the one that I had to have a root canal on. Well Dexie loved Mischief and Mika but he hated Silveretta and would really try to kill her I thought. For the next 18 months, I had to play musical ferrets. We have a big walk in closed, so Silveretta made her home there, but we would take her out to the rest of the house with the two girls. or if Dexie had the run of the house, the girls would be in the bedroom.
One time I thought that Silveretta was back in the closet (we had a plexiglass gate, never nuts the door) but she was really in the tent in the den. Dexie was brought out and immediately he zoomed in on her and grabbed her by the neck. Screech and flying poo. But thankfully I was right there.
That was the only bad incident, the rest of the time that Silveretta was still alive we were able to keep them apart without incident.

Silveretta was one of the ferrets I brought with me from Puerto Rico..lots of frequent flyer miles LOL

It's a bit better. but I dread the day that Yoshi hands his scepter to Scamp. I love Yoshi to death, and he has been a pretty fair ruler. It's sad what our beloved ferts have to do to get along. But once the torch is passed, I don't think that Scamp will be a meanie. He just wants to have fun. And he is a ton of fun. He met me at the door tonight like a dog and we had an hour of play. He's soo cool.

Yoshi and Scamp are working on it. It's still not settled, but they actually were in the same room for a time tonight without going at it...
