I'm beginning to think that this Kook is half kat. He jumps and climbs like one and is he ever strong. He's muc better about the teeth. We are also making progress on the Yoshi front. I'm not sure if Yoshi is starting to see Scamp as a playmate, or if the kid is just too fast for the old alpha. The last couple days they've spent a few hours out at the same time with no major fighting. Scamp is no longer allowed near the dishwasher...

An hour after I wrote that they got into it and Scamp got the worst of it. Puncture wounds in his neck and poop all over. grrr. He's now bigger than Yoshi and quicker, just not experienced in fighting. Scamp takes it out on Mogli, but he's not trying to kill him.

Speaking of pet stores, I definitely try to stay away from them. But today I had a bunch of shopping to do at a strip mall that had a PetSmart. I wandered all around the store and then came upon 4 beautiful ferrets. All sleeping peacefully. I checked to see that they had clean water and food, bedding and litter boxes and then I got the heck out of there. One really caught my eye, but I really have to control myself.
Good luck with the alpha and the newbie

our petsmarts here don't carry ferrets.. so we never have to worry when we go into one of those..lol usually just to buy turtle and fish supplies.. Chris was thinking for a while of a second Scamps.. Thank god we didn't do that.. he is more ferret then we need right now.. haha two of them would be dangerous..

Some ferrets take a very long time to adjust to each other. Gracie and Scarlet were cousins that hated each other. Gracie came first, we got her as a kit. We took her because the breeder said she would never find a forever home. She was very face aggressive. She was a great little girl until she got close enough to a face then she would clamp on and not let go. We took her home and loved her and made sure everyone knew not to let her get close to at face. She still got a few good clamps in every time we forgot. Scarlet came to us as a retired breeder when she was two. She was not a good mother. Every time they got too close to each other there a lot of screaming. After about two years they stopped and just stayed out of each others way. They did not become friends until Scarlet got lymphoma. Gracie mothered her, cuddled and cared for her until she died. Gracie Scarlet

O M G We were going thru the storage unit todaytrying to downsize a bit. Dar and I were and are Jeff Gordon fans. I found this, in an unopened box IT WORKS! It could be worth a fortune, or not, but watching Scamp chase it around is priceless. It keeps him away from our fingers and toes, HA! It takes 2 hands to operate, so it'll take some doing to get video, but he lost his mind chasing it. I would bet that Scamp could outlast the batteries in a fair fight, lol.

Scamp had 2 milestones today. 4 months old AND 3 lb!!! These aren't the greatest pics, but a tsp of salmon oil doesn't last very long in front of him, amd so far he's not a poser. IMG_2316 by unclejoe1158 With Lola, who is a tick over 1.5 lb. Not a great comparison, as she is sooooo fluffy. Scamp is mostly muscle. IMG_2320 by unclejoe1158 Here he looks a bit skinny, which he's not. He's the first ferret we've had that has shoulders bigger than hips. IMG_2318 by unclejoe1158

I once knew a ferret, not mine, that weighed 5 pounds. It was one of the managers here, before me and I really did not believe him until I was visiting my SIL in eastern Florida and he lived in the same town. It was l like a little dog running around. I wonder just how big Scamp is going to be

His growing has slowed some, and a couple days ago he was 3 lb 2 oz. Jaffa hit 5 lb once, and averaged 4 1/2 lb, but he had a belly. This guy is all muscle. He can jump onto a chair and back down like a cat. He gallops quite loudly on our fake wood floors.

-Just so everyone knows, our other ferrets are doing ok. We've just been preoccupied by Scamp, as he is still quite a job to handle. Rosa is showing signs of adrenal, slowly losing fur around her pelvic area. But her BG is maintaining, so we're thinking about an implant for her. We've just never had a ferret survive much longer than a year after dx with insulinoma.
Yoshi may have ceded his crown to Scamp, as he doesn't attack him anymore, but Scamp still sometimes wants to stir the pot. He may just want to play, but he plays too rough for the girls, and Smokie/Mogli just lets Scamp drag him around. Lola doesn't take any crap. She's the only ferret that still has any authority over the Scampster.
Scamp is into everything. Nothing is safe. He jumps onto chairs, not climbs. He leaps off of the bed and lands on his feet. He's non-stop when he's awake. He does seem to be settling into 2 2-3 hour play periods like the rest, and hopefully soon we can let him and Yoshi free roam together. I measured him tonight at 18 inches, from his nose to his anus, plus a 7 inch tail. Roughly. If I could get him to sit still he'd probably be a little longer. The good news is that he bites less, even nips less, and even kissed me once. It's been a little stressful, but maybe there's a light in the tunnel. Video to come.

ha ha, mine used to get into the night table drawer, the bottom one which was real deep. As Mac got older my husband arctally cut out a big "U" opening in the back so it was easier for him to get into. Guess we'll never get a good price if we sell the furniture HA HA

WE keep a lot of bottom drawers made up for the ferts, but night stands are off limits because we keep drugs and especially earplugs in them. That was the second tie he ate one

I don't know if it has anything to do with Pandy leaving us, but today Scamp has suddenly come to desire the company of his peers. Today I let him out for an hour and when I stopped hearing him running around, I found him sleeping with 4 of them in the hammock in the cage. Later, after everyone had soup, I found him sleeping in a closet with Lola and Yoshi, his erstwhile targets. A half our earlier, he was pulling Yoshi away from soups by the ear. I hope this is the beginning of friendship, but they are all 4 years older than Scamp. IMG_2815 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr
