It's time for April and Bonita's yearly check-ups and their rabies shots. Since one of the partners is on vacation, the other vet I usually see is booked until the end of next week. But they have a new vet, who worked at the Animal Kingdom at Disney and has been working at the clinic now for only 3 months. The girl making the appt didn't know if I wanted to see someone new, but since my girls are just going in for routing work-ups, I said fine. Ill let you know how this new experience goes as their appt is tomorrow at 2 pm.
I always think it's good to get to know the vet as well as the vet get to know the ferret when they are healthy, not just wen they start getting sick.

A routine physical is one of the best ways to meet a new doctor, Heidi. This new vet will have the advantage of assessing your girls when they are healthy, which will give him/her something valid to compare with if they get ill. Besides that, you'll have an opportunity to observe the new dr. and you'll be able to tell by the way your girls are handled whether you can trust the new vet with your babies from now on. Please let us know what'cha think after the exams are over. OK? Hugs, Greta

What a good idea to meet the vet while your girls are healthy with the hope they always be healthy but in case they feel not well, the vet will see the difference... I hope you will love your new vet

Good grief....can these vets get any younger? I think she was about 15 HA HA
I liked her, she was open to some suggestions and was quite thorough in her exam.
I was waiting that 20 minutes after the shots and April just didn't seem to be herself. She really isn't a lab ferret and seemed to be a bit lethargic and when I held her she just wanted to lie on my shoulder. The vet came right back quickly into the waiting room and did another exam right there. Breathing, heart rate, coloration of gums etc. April was fine. I think it was all the excitement of the ride, being in a kennel etc and she was just ready to take a nap.
Weights are exactly the same as last year. No ear mites, not fleas, no sign of anything except two "well women" LOL

What a great check up for your girls, Heidi! Yukka is right about young people looking younger as we grow older. Once my brother and I took our mom to an ER for emergency treatment. When the doctor came in, I could swear he was Doogie Hauser. LOL Hugs, Greta

So glad you liked the new vet!! To me that's one of the most important things in any ferts life. I don't know what I'd do if Dr V wasn't around. Luckily I haven't needed her when she's been on vacation . . . which she doesn't take many of since the vet that had been with her for a while left to take care of her new baby. Hopefully she'll find a replacement soon before she poops out!!!
