Oh for the first time, I think I am sad to not win. Habitually that don't bother me, I am just glad to participate. But when I was looking at the winners ... In my head it was a big no no ... Even for the one they choose about the sand. The image looks great in the small view, but in biggest view, the quality is not on the top. It was an official professional big contest, there were over 700 entries, and some were breathtaking. The only one that I think it was fair to win in their choice is the one with the orange-red leafs. There is high quality and great composition, and fits perfectly with the contest. It is a runner up even not a winner. I admit the little green Gecko is so cute Here are the results for those interested : news.deviantart.com/article/88583/Here was my entry : yukkabelle.deviantart.com/art/Rhinarium-130240693And all the entries : browse.deviantart.com/contests/2009/naturenatural/Yes Again, since this morning I had some hope... I was enough proud of Nahum's Rhinarium

He's always the winner in my mind! He's such a beautiful baby and you capture his presence so well in all your photos.

You know we all love our little Nahum and in our hearts he is the most beautiful. That really was one heck of a competition though. Some of those photos are just awesome. Probably depended on how the judges felt the morning of the voting. Since the voting most likely was personal preference

Thank you for you kind words You are probably right Huronna. But I still don't understand, the judges are pro, I follow their work for a while. They are even published in many magazines as National Geographic, Photos Mag, etc ... and I just still don't understand their choices. Even if it was their taste of their morning, it is not supposed to be like this. I don't say that my photo would have to be the winner, but some entries were really breathtaking and fitted perfectly with the contest showing textures and was encountering the rules of high quality photography techniques. And those ones would have to be the winners. And I knew I will have no chance against them, and it was ok with me because I am able to admit the excellence of others But when I look at the winners and at the runner up they chose, it is at this moment I think my Photography could be in there. (I still think the orange-red leafs is amazing and should be a winner and no a runner up) Anyway ... I am still participating to other competitions

It is a joking way of saying that there was something illegal in the picking of the winners. Like maybe the judges knew the photographers.
This is something we say in English when we feel a contest is not fair, or when the one we want to win, doesn't.
It is to try and make the person who did not win feel better. that it was a prejudiced pick

Ahhhh Yukka..Sorry to hear our Nahum pic didn't win.. I for one thought that photo was fantastic..Then again I am prejudiced.. I love ferrets..lol But I sure did like the uniqueness of it..
Sometimes it's not the quality that wins but who you know.. Maybe this is the case and maybe not.. I haven't looked at your link to see the other photos.. Going to do that now..
I think it's a precious picture and you be proud of it..
