I need some advice... I am COMPLETELY lost! My baby Lilo has had runny, yellowish poops for quite some time... I shouldn't say yellow, more of a tan-ish, if that makes any sense. She is eating normally, very bright eyed and playful during play time. Not too sure what can be causing it! No missing fur, no lumps or bumps. Everything seems normal. She just has yuckie poops! Please help!

Is Lilo losing any weight as a result of the diarrhea, gf? Is she drinking plenty of water? And is your little one on the same diet as your other fuzzies? Regardless, I think a trip to the vet is in order. Ferrets can get dehydrated quickly when they have the runs. It's possible there may be an underlyhing cause for this condition that isn't apparent without an examination. Please keep us posted. Hugs, Greta

Greta, she is eating and drinking normally. Definitely not losing weight. We took her to the vet about a month ago because her bottom seemed a bit red, so the doctor gave us some medicine to help get rid of the runs and it didn't work. Her bottom got much better. The doc said she was very healthy otherwise. She is eating the exact same thing that the other 2 are eating... so I'm pretty stumped!

Could this be due to the kind of water she is drinking. Maybe switch the type of water to see if that helps. Such as destilled bottle water. I have a neighbor who's cat gets the runs if it drinks tap water, he can only drink bottled drinking water.

If the vet said your baby is healty except for those runs and that was only a month ago, then I wouldn't be too concerned about anything life threatening, gf. I know there are certain foods you can feed a ferret to eliminate diarrhea, but am not sure what they are. I have heard of canned pumpkin being used as a digestive aid, but don't remember if it was for diarrhea or for constipation. Maybe another member will come on board with the right info for you on this. Did your vet do a fecal check for parasites when he/she examined your fur kid? It is rare for a ferret to have 'worms' or other intestinal parasites, but it doesn happen. I'm glad to hear your little one's bottom is so much better since the vet's treatment began. As momo3ferrets says, it could also be the drinking water. Changing the type of water you offer your kid would be worth a try. Please keep us posted. Hugs, Greta

Just an idea but are you giving your baby more treats than usual? Though treats are made with ferrets in mind, they are sometimes richer and can upset a tummy. I know if I give mine too many treats, only will get the runs while the other will puke. I have to count out the number and not go overboards...slapping hubby's hand who is usually the culprit

Well, I haven't been giving treats... and I don't know if they did a fecal sample or not... so I truly am stumped!

If you vet saw Lilo a month ago, it was to treat one thing, but you should definite contact your vet again with this problem as it is continuing too long. You may need to replace some of Lilo's normal bacterial flora because if she had been put on antibiotics it may have killed off the normal bacterial also.
There are some pills that contain Lactobacillus Acidophilis which can be used, but your vet may have some other suggestions

Hi, bad poop is always signs of something... Perhaps it is something no important. As huronna said perhaps just something with Lilo's bacterial flora. Benebac is good for that, please ask to your vet. Perhaps also she has just develop a reaction to a certain food ? no stress arround ? No too hot in your home ? eating something hidden ?

It's also possible your vet may recommend giving Lilo a little yogurt, gf. Most yogurts contain the bacteria that is essential for normal digestion. Good luck with your precioius little girlie. Please continue to keep us posted. We care! Loving hugs, Greta

Just another idea came to me.. Maybe she is sensitive to something in the food that your other two aren't?? Maybe you can try her on a different brand of Ferret food and see if that helps.. I know ferrets get the runs from switching foods.. Maybe she is allergic to something in the brand you are feeding her.. And Yes canned pumpkin,, not the pie filling but plain pumpkin with no spices is supposed to be a real help for stomach digestion problems.. I have heard it works good for either way,, constipation or diarea.. Mix a bit in her soupies if you give her soupies..
Hope she gets better fast,,
