It is so frustrating to go through the process of learning what is "normal" for a new critter, and worrying about stuff that while it isn't good, may not be as bad as I think it is.
Cinnamon one of my two new ones, the one that gives sweet ferret kisses, sleeps alot, more than the other two. He will run around a bit but soon returns to a plastic bag or soft clothes to curl up and go to sleep. Toby the other new one has become accustomed to my schedule pretty quick, and now joins Charcoal in the new cage climbing around demanding attention every time I come into the room. Toby loves raisons and will come runing now to the crackling sound of a snack bag. I couldn't find him last night when it was time to go back to his cage, but when I got a dog snack for Oliver , and the bag crinkled, Toby came flying out of whereever he had been hiding.
I have been worrying about Cinnamon, because of what I consider excessive sleeping, he also had loose yellow stools, with mucas. Not the runs, just the odd color and consistency. I could see that he was still drinking, but couldn't tell if he was eating. I moved him into Charcoal's old cage, to make it sort of a makeshift observation area, and to separate him from the other two, and be able to tell if he was eating. He is smaller than the other two, and much lighter, than Charcaol specifically. There is no heft to him. In my opinion he can't afford to lose any weight. Anyway, in the new cage, I noticed that the color of his stools had changed to normal, and no more mucas, but they still aren't formed, and he is eating and drinking. I noticed this week that he had been sneezing, but Charcoal sneezes alot, so I didn't pay much attention to it. Now, I am wondering if maybe he had a cold or the flu. I am keeping him in the other cage to monitor him until his stools are nomal again.
How would I know what his normal sleeping pattern is? I am thinking now that Charcoal is a rowdy ferret. and because I didn't know anything about ferrets, I thought that was there normal behavior. Toby was sleeping a bit more and is much more of a sweet cuddler, but he has become much more active with Charcoal in there. Maybe Charcoal sleeps the whole time I am gone. I didn't have the clips in the exact right place on one of the doors and about 3 am this morning Charcoal had escaped and was roaming the house. Toby didn't follow him though, and when Toby and Cinnamon were in that cage, they didn't need clips, they didn't brace themselves and push against the door to squeeze through the hole. I don't think that Cinnamon would have the body strength to make it work for him anyway.
When I am sure that Cinnamon is at whatever "normal" is for him, what can I do to build him up some? I worry because he feels fragile to me.
Thanks,
Rene
