I spent the 4th of July at the lake with my children and some friends. Of course we had plans for joining in with the annual fireworks display in which many lake residents participate. Well ... just as dark began to approach we heard sirens and soon it was evident that the sheriff and his crew were launching a boat into the water and everyone who was boating suddenly disappeared as they docked their water craft at their piers. I've never seen that lake clear so quickly of boaters! We headed back too, as there were not enough life jackets on board for everyone. But it wasn't long until we had the required number of life saving gear and we were off again. My daughter had her camera along (of course) as she carries it everywhere.
Lori photographed the sheriff as he inspected an outbuilding which housed nautical supplies (and we thought, fireworks, too). But the sheriff and his crew left as suddenly as they had come and the coast was clear for the fireworks display. The display was fantastic, lasting well over an hour and consisting of every conceivable professional firework that I've ever seen.
When the smoke cleared and word got around, we learned the sheriff had arrived in response to an emergency. A young boy had rammed his Jet Ski into the side of a boat. Apparently the man driving the boat had been injured in the crash and a 911 call resulted in our unusual holiday events. We all just hope the injured man will recover quickly.

I hope so too, Greta. I'm glad you enjoyed the fireworks and sending good thoughts for the man to recover quickly from the accident. Fireworks over water are so pretty, we have that here too as we live by a lake.

Added excitement to an already exciting day of celebrations! I hope the man will be better soon, too. We saw fireworks almost from the front yard.....had to just go across the street to watch them, --- love to see those high flying ones! Fireworks must be so pretty over the Lakes .....reflecting in the water! Glad you all enjoyed the holiday! ~ ~Granny

i Actually wish that individuals did not shoot off fireworks in their yards. The guy that lives across the street must have spend $100's for all that he used and as a result when I went to work yesterday my front yard and driveway was littered with the remains. WHat a mess. I felt like sweeping it all up and dumping it in his driveway, but I had to go to work

Wow Heidi, I wouldn't like my neighbors doing that either.
Nice to watch the town displays from your own yard -- me and mom can both see them from our yards, but wouldn't want the neighbors doing that!

In the past there have bee neighbors who have shot off high flying fireworks that threatened to land on the roofs of neighborhood houses. Not many folks cared for that, as a roof fire could make short work of someone's home. I think using fireworks in residential neighborhoods should be prohibited.
I found out today that a young boy was thrown around that boat that was hit but he didn't receive any major injuries. The guy who hit the boat with the Ski Jet was taken away in handcuffs as he was drunk. I was happy to learn no major injuries occurred from that boating accident. Hugs, Greta
