My little girl is getting around better now and eating on her own. This morning Itty took a looooong drink from the bowl of water I was ready to mix her soup in. Then she ate a tummy full of warm duck soup with cream and Tone mixed in it. I did not subQ Itty this morning after seeing how much water she had drunk. After Itty's nap though, I wasn't ab le to get her to eat her baby food meat mixed with cream and pedialyte popcicle so I force fed her this mixture with a feeding syringe. Itty ate a whole syringe full without complaint and then mommy subQ'd her little girl again. I'm just playing this by ear and observing Itty to determine what treatment is necessary and when. I don't want to expose her to any painful or distasteful experiences unless I have to. My baby is comfortable and just eating up all the love and attention she is getting from mommy and from Ozzie. Thanks to all of you for your comfort and support. Mommy GG

Thank you, Marie-Agnes for your prayers and kind words. While I was tendinbg to Itty's needs this evening, my daughter called. I put my little girlie on the floor and she disappeared. Much later I saw Itty eating from the kibble bowl in the kitchen and drinking from the water dish. Mommy gave Itty some warm duck soup which she lapped at for about 5 minutes. Then came Itty's prednisone. I had warmed Itty's subQ in a cup of hot water and shortly after I got the needle under my baby's skin and began injecting the sterile water, Itty began to squirm. I knew the subQ was hurting her this time, so I withdrew the neddle immediately, liifted Itty into my arms and carried her to bed to tuck her in for the night. Tomorrow we see the vet again and I know she's going to be so happy when she learns how well Itty is doing with her treatment program. This new vet was amazed at the size of Ozzie! She said she had never seen such a huge ferret. Ozzie only weighs in at abou 4 and a half pounds and I was surprised at the vet's amazement. LOL Loving hugs, Mommy GG

I'm so happy to hear Itty is doing better, hopefully she will be back to normal soon. On the needles.. when you see the vet ask them to give you a couple of 23 guage winged infusion needles with leads to try out. The needle is very small and short and Itty shouldn't feel it at all. They wiggle and squirm when the fluid goes in because it's cold and something is going under thier skin, just go slow and keep her distracted with some ferretone and she will settle down quickly. It can be hard to do by yourself, but I just pour a puddle of ferretone on the floor(I'm sitting on the floor also), then I get the sryinge and needle ready. I put the ferret to the ferretone puddle and grab the scruf and gently push the needle in. If the needle is new it should go in real easy and the ferret shouldn't feel it. Then I hold the ferret by the waist and start injecting the fluids. They will wiggle a little, but if you get them to lick the tone, they will settle down. Sometimes I have to add more tone and keep my hand ready to grab them in case they want to walk off. That's why using the needle with the lead is nice, they can move around without the needle coming out. I also had to give my Fizzle, who was 8 yrs old, fluids twice a day for nearly a month. She was white and her little skin would bruise sometimes, but she took it like a trooper and always got a treat after she was done along with a kiss. She looked so cute running around like a mad woman with sparse white hair and a big bubble of fluids on her back, but it helped her so much and I think kept her alive until her IBD got so bad we had to let her go. Let us know how the vet visit goes.
