...for my sweet Princess. She is 5-6 yrs of age...one of the four rescues I got almost two years ago. Last fall she started showing signs of adrennal...she got the desalorin implant since after bloodwork and her age, she wasn't a good candidate for surgery. In April, she went to the vet for a check-up and her cbc showed she was border insalanomic...she's been on pred plus she got a lupron shot. She's eating, drinking and sometimes playing when her tummy isn't swollen too much. Yesterday, I noticed that she had wet herself and it was a dark color. Due to her age and bloodwork, I can only hope for a little more time and a "die in your sleep" before she's skin and bones option. Not a pretty picture but that's life with ferrets. She still looks beautiful but her body is frail with a big tummy. This is why I haven't posted too much.....all but three of my "babies' are over 3 yrs of age and the problems are starting! Next week the last three get there teeth done...3 are on pred, 7 of them are having adrennal problems....lupron shots, etc. Desperado needs surgery for adrennal and insalanoma....I'm trying to enjoy every spare moment with them. The computer has taken a back seat.....

I am so very sorry to ear that your beautiful girl is sick.
I wonder why if she get the Deslorelin implant in fall, the vet gave to her a Lupron shot las April? She is showing again symptom of adrenal ? Deslorelin doesn't work ?
Do you know why her belly is swollen ?
Princess is in my thoughts and prayers

Yukka, Desalorin doesn't work 100 per cent in ALL ferrets. Out of the 5 that got the implants, she is the only one that got the signs back after 6 months. My vet thinks it might be the rare cancer form of adrennal disease and the tumors didn't shrink or liver cancer. That's why she tried the lupron but she hasn't responded to it either. My vet did a sonagram and she does have a mass that looks like a fatty mass but couldn't really know for sure... her chances were slim that she would survive a surgery. Thanks for the prayers!

I'm sorry to hear this about Princess. She is a beauty It's a shame that the implants don't work all the time. I know from experience they do and then they don't as with Frick.
When out babies start hitting that 5 mark, it's like we're walking on ice, knowing that something is going to happen, just don't know when or what.
By the way the CBC doesn't detect insulinoma, a test for glucose was probably done. A CBC is a complete blood count, white blood cells, Hemoglobin etc....basically checks for anemia or infections.

Huronna, Actually she had both screenings done....I just can't think straight when I'm upset. She made it through the nite but dirtied herself. I cleaned her up and she ate and drank some water.....Thanks for the prayers everyone.

You and Princess are in my prayers. I have been in your shoes one too many times. It is evident that you love Princess very much and want the very best for her. I hope that her medication will kick in and keep her comfortable. You were so kind to me when I lost Mittens earlier this year. I hope you all the best. Give Princess a hug for me!!

Unfortunately most of us have worn your shoes before. You and Princess are definitely in our prayers. Just keep her comfortable and give her plenty of good lovin'!! But there are miracles so maybe one will happen and the meds will kick in and do some good for your baby.

It's so hard to be so helpless. We try to do everything we can to make our babies betters. And then the best things we can do is love and comfort.
My prayers are with you

Many thanks to all that prayed for my sweet, beautiful Princess. She crossed the BRIDGE yesterday before noon without any visible display of discomfort. She refused "soup"and just went into her "box" and wanted to sleep. The other three(Flake, Bandit, & zeus) took their turns grooming her and laying with her. It was a bittersweet sight to behold. All I could do was cry and pray she would feel no pain. Over night she had turned yellow around her mouth, which was like my Fuzzer so many years ago......he had huge growths on his liver when my vet cut him open to try to save him. My little Princess went into a coma and except for those muscle spasm twitches went to sleep forever. Today, I'm making a new ferret burial plot(the other one is full except for a space reserved for Butch beside Sunny) in my huge flower garden for her and her three pals when their time comes to cross over.

It's never easy when they have to leave us, but just going to sleep is what I think we all would like

I'm so sorry that you have lost your beautiful Princess. When my dad had cancer, the dr. said that it would be best if the liver cancer took him because he would just "sleep away" and that is what happened. So, if that is any comfort to you, it sounds like your lovely Princess must have done that too, from the mass on her liver.
What a sweet thing that your other little babies did, tho, to come and groom her and say good-bye in their own sweet way.
My heart goes out to you on the loss of this oh-so-beautiful little Princess.
