Lily is on Medical REcovery kitten formula for now and I have enough for 10 more days. (Canned). Plus she is on Medical Development formula for kittens. I was going to give her the duck soup recipie with the pedialite and Ensure but I read that ferrets with insulinoma on Prednisone should NOT have ensure or Pedidalite. I cant affor much more of the special medical cans especially since none of the vets near me carry it adn it costs me 18 bucks to go get it at her vets. So I am thinking of using the Duck Soup recipie fromKristine at Friends of Fuzzies Shelter posted on site here. I would use it along with her Developmental Medical dry kibble. I am wondering what you all think? Its jsut so hard with all the maony we have spent so far, we are comming up a bit short but keeping her on the Recovery food for another 10 days before we switch her should help. Shadoe

I know Robin, Loveaferret has also a wonderful recipe too.
I don't know about the pedialite and ensure. Pedialite is using for what in here case ? for rehydrate ?
I think if Lilly loves your soupy, and the soupy has all the ingredients she needs, it is ok. I will talk about that with your vet also. Perhaps in the caned food there are some vitamins that she needs. But i hink the canned food is only for the time of her recovery.

When TT was sick with insulinoma I fed him his soup just before giving him his prednisone twice a day (to coat his stomach) and also fed him soup when he had come out of a seizure. When TT was unconscious, I rubbed his gums with clear Karo syrup until he responded and became conscious again. Then I fed him the soup. The rest of the time TT ate his regular kibble (Totally Ferret/Zupreem for ferrets/ Marshalls in a mix) and my boy did well for seven months. If his tumor hadn't been so huge (the size of a marble) I know TT would have lived longer. Yukke is right in suggesting you call your vet for approval when changing Lily's diet to what if more affordable for you. I h ope this helps you. Loving hugs, Greta

dont give ensure are Pedialite both are high in suger for an insulinoma ,My Eve has Insulinoma , I only give her honey are karo syup when I fine her in a stupper to bring her BG up , you can add Heavey whipping cream 1 tables for under weight ferrets every other day 1 teas for normable weights, HWC can be put in ice trays and then in freezer bags , as for the MRK I add the can to a duck soup , last way longer longer in frozen cubes for a ferret meal , I use to use 2 jars chicken are turkey baby food (know I make my own with chicken you can use hinded quarters , thighs & wings even a whole cut up chicken will work, as for Pedialite I use Nupro custom electrolyte formula for dogs , www.nuprostore.com I dont know if they had one for ferrets are not , I add a pinch to there soup bowl are 1/2 scoop to the duck soup (comes with scoop) , I dont give any bandits treats they have sugers so does the 8 in 1 soft food

okay here my 2 cents.... talk to the vet find out how long that the special food was to be used.... if only for recovery see if you can ween her off slowly.... if not see what you can add to your duck soup to bring it close to the recovery food, and explain about the expense...and the difficulty of getting the food..... maybe the two of you can come up with a remedy for your situation.....if she is a good vet she will help you.....and she sounds like a good one...... i have kept lily in my thoughts for a healing and long life...you will find that she will be a loving and special ferret. I have found that thoes who come from a bad home are very loving, my fancy no1 came from a home that slapped her and kept her in a hamster cage. when she came to me it took hubby two weeks of bloody hands and wrists (yes, she bit and drew blood) but as she came to under stand we loved her and nothing was going to happen to her she became a loving little girl and my little sentinel, two times a night she would walk across the pillows and check hubby and me as if to say "am i in heaven is this real???" and the night bathroom visit would always find her at our sides.......... alas she passed many years ago and i still miss her nightly runs......lily will reward you ten fold....... hug her for me and tell her mommie laurie is sending her healing thoughts and love........... mommie laurie
