Reggae was diagnosed with a digestive problem where his pancreas isn't making enough of the enzymes needed to digest his food. His poos are very light in color, which the vet says means he isn't producing bile. I guess the enzymes tell the liver to release the bile to digest the food. He said there was a lot of undigested fat and protein in his poo. So, since he isn't getting the nutrition he needs out of his food, he is basically starving to death no matter how much he eats. The vet ordered an enzyme replacer that should be in tomorrow. Hopefully this will give the pancreas time to heal and start making the enzyme on its own again. The vet said based on cases he sees of this, there is about a 40% chance that this will work. So he has a chance, but it's not a very good one.
BTW His fasting BG was 83, so he isn't insulinomic. At least yet anyways. Also his weight in Sept. was 2 lbs, and he is now down to about 1 1/4 lbs.

I just now found your two posts about Reggae, gf. You have a great vet to have picked up on this. I'll be keeping you and Reggae in my prayers that the Enzyme replacement will work well and that Reggae's pancreas will soon produce this essential enzyme on its own. Please keep us posted. God bless you both, Girlfriend. Loving hugs, Greta

This is very interesting information. I've never heard of this before. Let's hope and pray that Reggie will be in that 40% group

Thank you for the prayers. I had never heard of this either. But my vet said he has seen quite a few cases in cats and dogs.

Isn't this called "seedy poop"? I think I did a bland diet(baby food/ensure, carafate) It is like a food allergy? ? Maybe Ragae is different....hope it works.

His poops are actually normal texture. They look like a regular ferret poop, but they are tan in color.

My daughter breeds Golden Retrievers and one of the puppies she sold developed this condition. The enzyme treatment worked well for the doggy and now she's good as new. I've been praying for Reggie and keep watching your post for updates and hopefully good news. Loving hugs, Greta
