little princess lilo has gotten out!!!! we are always soooo very very careful with the door. dont know how this happened. we cant find her in the house anywhere. this happened late last night. look outside then and again this morning but cant find her. I had to come to work but told my oldest and keith to put the carrier outside with some of the towels from the cage in it along with some food. also to alert the vets and shelter ands neighbors. is there anything else we can do? im sitting here bawling my eyes out at the thought of her all lost and alone.

I am so sorry your dear little Princess Lilo is lost! Have you put up posters with her picture and offered a small reward? Often kids in the neighborhood will be more than happy to help you search. I have had this happen to me before. I was lucky I found my little girl. I pray that Lilo will be found quickly and unharmed. I will keep both of you in my prayers.

Besides what y ou mentioned you've already done gf, be sure there's water waiting for your little fur girl near the carrier. Also if you have Ferretone and your baby likes it, sprinkle the Ferretone over the area around and also into the carrier. Any favorite treat will do that can be spread around the area. It's the scent that will attract your baby. If any of you see kids on bicycles in the neighborhood, ask them to help you scour the neighborhood for your little one. You can offer them a reward, as Dee says. Make sure these children know what a ferret is and what to look for, though.
When my TT was 7 months old, he slipped out the front door while I was saying goodbye to my son. TT was gone for 29 hours and during the night it began to snow. I put the small carrier outside with lots of ferret used blankies in it and set a dish of warm duck soup and a water bottle near the carrier. I kept praying for God to find TT for me and my son and I spent much of the day after my boy came up missint walking the yard and the neighborhood calling TT and squeaking his favorite squeak toy. And I contacted the neighbors. When it began to snow, I was quite worried, but at 11 p.m the 2nd night, when I checked for my boy I saw little pawprints in the snow. I quickly began squeaking TT's toy again and calling him, but no TT. Then at midnight I went out again to search for my boy. That's when I saw those paw prints leading up the porch steps and into TT's carrier! Keep looking, gf. Don't give up. The first couple of days is the most critical. Loving hugs, Greta

thanks greta...you give me hope. we live on a small cul de sac and almost all the neighbors know we have the ferrets. so they have been alerted to keep their eyes open.

I am so sorry to hear that your little darling is lost. But please don't give up hope.
Yes my Gizzy got out and I had given up hope of ever seeing him again. I went to bed on a Monday night and some time during the night, I'm still not too sure if maybe I left a cupboard door unlatched under the kitchen sink, or if he finally figured out how to pop it open, but when I got up Tuesday morning about 6 AM, there was all the stuff under the sink pushed out, several of the other cupboard doors were open and a few of the drawers were also pushed out. I absolutely panicked. I had a feeling it was gizzy, but went in search anyway. Sure enough all three of the girls were sound asleep and no Gizzy. There is a pipe that runs up to the sink through the floor of the mobile home and the hole for the pipe was bigger than the pipe. I wasn't sure if he went down there on his own or fell down it. It is only about 1 1/2" larger than the pipe. By this time in the early dawn, it was pouring down rain. I grabbed by robe and the squeek toy and started my seach. After about an hour in my robe and slippers I came in and got dressed and went back outside to scour the neighborhood. I looked all day, squeeking, crying and covering every inch of the park and then some. That afternoon I put the carry cage out the back door at the bottom of the steps with food and water with my heart breaking. I kept checking and everyonce in awhile I would go back out and search some more until it got too dark. Got up the next morning and still no Gizzy. No food in the cage either. The ferel cats had gotten to it. So I put more food in it and began the search once again. I made up posters, and put them in the office of the park and around the streets. As soon as I got back in the house it had started to rain again so there went my posters. By that night still no Gizzy. And by that time I had to replentish the food in the cage at the bottom of the stairs once again. Night fell and I went to bed, I had to face it. Gizzy was GONE. I would never see my gizzy again. I got up Thrusday morning and looked out the back door. The cage was turned over, the food gone. I had to accept it. Decided I was tired of feeding the neighbor cats and brought the cage inside the house and put it away. This was about 6 AM and it was still dark outside. About an hour later the back porch light went on (sensor controlled). I went barreling out to give those cats a what for, and low and behold there was my Giz boy walking towards the steps. I called out to him and frightened him. He ran under the steps. I grabbed the squeek toy, a few treats and went out and layed on my belly on the ground, calling to him and squeeking the toy. I knew if he ever got close enough to my hand to get my scent he would come out. Which took about 15 minutes. By the time I was able to get ahold of him and pick him up I was in tears. Tears of happiness. I had given up hope of ever seeing him again.
So please don't give up. I hope your baby comes home safely. It sounds like you are on the right track and doing everything you can.

I'm checking in too, hoping that Lilo has come back to you. Don't give up hope, gf. She very well could be close to the house somewhere if she's outdoors. Ferrets usually don't stray too far when they escape the house. The day my TT came back to me, my son found several places on the burm next to the house where TT had tried to tunnell a burrow. He'd have made it too, if the ground hadn't been frozen. Hugs, Greta

Checking in again to see if there's any good news on Lila. Btw, is there any place in the house she might be that you haven't yet checked? How about any tube like structures setting around the house. This is an unpleasant possibility, but once I found Nada inside the heat register in the kitchen. She hadn't made her way to the furnace before I was able to grab a screwdriver and remove the register cover to rescue her. Nada also removed the heavy wooden cover to a cold air duct once and I found her inside before she slid to the basement down the duct. If your little girl is tiny as most female ferrets are, she may have slipped into a place somewhere that you wouldn't suspect she'd have access to. You and Lila are in my prayers. Loving hugs, Greta

Where do you live?? Have you found Lilo yet?? There is a posting on FML about a lost ferret found in Ipswich and Hamilton, Massachusetts border. Don't know if that is where you are..But thought I would mention it just incase it could be Lilo.. If it is Huronna knows my email and she can get in touch with me and I will send you the rest of the info where the ferret is being kept at the moment..
