Monday morning Scamp could not be found. He was last sen Sun nite abit beore I checked the porch for ferrets. I spent a couple hours in the morning and evening in the woods by the house, where he always wanted to go while on the leash. This morning Dar insisted I check the other direction, where the other few houses on our road are. Sqeaking and calling, driving slowly... Nothing. Checked surveillance video of the porch from Mon morning early and nothing. A few minutes after I clocked in at work I get a text that Scamp came running in the front door. ELATION I cried myself to sleep last night. I woke him up tonight to get a few cuddles and a kiss. He licked up Yoshi and went back to bed. He's still sleeping. He is very glad to be home and so are we. IMG_2986 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr

I am so glad Scamp is home safe! I know the panic when a ferret goes missing. I had two escape together. I and all the kids in the neighborhood search for hours. The first was found because she went to a neighbor's house and they saw her looking in the patio door. She came right in and went into their pet carrier. The second one took 6 hours to find. He was to fat to get through the small hole that she escaped through under the house. I heard him scratching and called him to the vent that I took off to get him out. I am happy Scamp made it home without any harm.

Thank the lord I have never had a ferret go missing outside the house. There have been time inside because they found some new sleeping place, squeaky toy works except when they are deaf like Scout. Both Scout and Powder are very curious about the outside and we have to always double check before opening any door. I think this is how both of them wound up in the shelter....lost .
I am so glad you found Scamp, It would tear my heart out if I were in the same situation.

Oh we didn't find him. He came running back. Since he's been back we've pulled at least 20 deer ticks off him. It was unreal.it's been a busy week and tomorrow i'm going to look at a house... I think I fixed his escape route

The one time I had 3 escape to the outdoors. It was at my old apartment. The house was in sort of an L shape, With my porch at the corner of the L on the backside. Made a nice little play area. I used to take the ferrets outside off leash to play, and they would stay in that area. Of course I was right there with them! I would leave outside door open, and when they got tired of playing they would take themselves back upstairs. They also had a bunch of toys in the landing at the top of the stairs and a couple things at the bottom. (there was only two apts, and my neighbor was great about checking for ferrets when entering) Well, one day I let the ferrets out into the hall to play on the stairs, and I forgot to check the outside door. About 30 min later I heard a thumping noise from the hall. Went to see what the ferrets were getting into, and no ferrets!!! So I ran downstairs. When I opened the door, I saw Mo-Weasel laying on his side. He had been trying to paw the door open because he was done playing and wanted to come back in! I went out and found Mindy digging under the porch, so I put her back in. But there was no sign of Jumanji, who was only about 6 months old. I ran back up and got a squeaky, and ran around the yard squeaking for all I was worth, to no avail. I decided to look back under the porch. Still didn't see her, but then I saw little clods of dirt fly by. She was up under the steps where I couldn't see her, happily digging a tunnel to China. I was so relieved!! And I made sure to check the door after that before stair time! I know how panicked I was and it was only like 30 min she was "lost" to me. I couldn't imagine a couple days! Glad he came home.

i'VE HAD ESCApees before. Fortunately the last 2 were alice and Carol, and they always came back on their own, unless intercepted by neighbors. Here's our hero enjoying some time chilling on the porch with me last night IMG_0801 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr
