5 ferts were out in the 70 degree afternoon on the porch. An hour later when I go to put them to bed, Lola and Abita are found behind the couch playing with something. I picked Bita up and put her on the counch while I go after Lola. I look down and there is a wasp on the couch. Beedee gives it a sniff and jumps back. I swore she musta got stung. It was only then that I even realized what they had. She's ok for now an hour later. goll durn ferrets

I am so glad there was no damage done. I am sure you can never have a dull day with a ferret. Sometimes I think they do stuff just to scare us half to death and it always seems to work. How is Dar's new job going?

Beeds is ok. But tonight we discovered Lola has a nasty prolapse. I know it was not there yesterday when we did nails. We have a protocol to work with but it looks like it's time to find a new local vet. The job is going great, btw. I'll update that tomorrow hopefully.

Dar is working for a pretty popular private dog grooming salon. The ad was for a front desk person but she said she'll do whatever rather than be there doing nothing when it's slow. She's already being complimented on how well she handles dogs and blows them out. Seems this place has been thru a few people recently. The owner has told her that if someone lasts a year she will train them to be a groomer "for free." I'd be surprised if Dar was there 3 months before they start training her. It's more a matter of Dar keeping them on, lol.
Lola's prolapse has completely retreated, like it never hapened. Vet visit went very well. Lola provided the ubiquitous poop sample and tested negative for coccidia and parasites. The vet said she was just adorable and seemed in perfect health. Her butt looks a lot better today. She said keep doing what we're doing. The only possible cause we can come up with is that Lola got into the kat kibble. This was just one visit, but she at least has heard of deslorelin, tho not the trade name of Suprelorin F. She said she's read a recent study that suggests it prevents adrenal cancer in 80% of patients. She's going to look into how to get it and I said I'd send her some info. She apparently sees a lot of ferrets but of course most people don't want to spend much money on them. She said at the conference she attended recently it was also suggested that des works better as a preventive than as a treatment and that for the money it's better than lupron. I could have drove 1/2 hr to Bristol, to a vet that has a good ferret rep but she is in town here and I wanted to check her out. So far so good. She spent a good 15 minutes with us after the exam talking ferrets. Pretty sure I can work with her. I hope. Prissy escaped her pen while I was gone and I spent 15 minutes cleaning up poop. But that ol gal is still a ferret in every way.

When I first moved to Florida the vet I found didn't know anything about ferrets the year before. But when My friend who started a shelter went to him he wanted to learn and learn he did. When a vet listens and asks questions that is definitely a good sign. I have been extremely lucky with my original vet and the one who bought out his practice who was already an exotic vet
