I've noticed over the last week or so that Zoboo seemed to be having a little trouble with his back legs. But I hid my head in the sand and put it off to trying to move his legs around his fat belly. Last night he seemed a little lethargic-I put it down to the heat....heck I wasn't feeling too peppy myself. Well, today reality smacked me in the face. I heard ferret distress noises, and looked and Zob was trying to poo with no success. He kept trying and trying and getting more and more distressed. I rushed him to the vet, and on the way there he deteriorated very rapidly and was in a lot if pain and struggling to breathe. Upon exam, the vet found a rather large tumor in his belly, seeming to be wrapped around his intestine and probably pushing into his back (causing the leg weakness) He also had several lumps that weren't there yesterday around his nipples. I made the decision to let him go.
They loaned me a blanket, and gave him some pain meds. We went out under the trees and laid in the grass and shade for a while and I told him everything I needed to (even tho he was deaf I know he heard me) When he started to become uncomfortable despite the meds, we went back in for the final shot. He passed with a belly full if soup, after spending time in his beloved outdoors, surrounded by his Mama's love.
