Trashman went to get Newf the cats percription food yesterday and was informed that Hills has raised the price 70%! That makes one small can of cat food $3.06! He eats one can a day so thats 22. bucks a week! The vet says all the pet food companies are raising prices! I may have to resort to cooking for Newf. Like I have the time! He is on this food to prevent kidney and bladder blockage. I am at my wits end. I sure hope none of the other 9 cats or the dogs or ferrets need special food. We have them all on good quality food but I am not sure how long that will last if these prices keep going up. I just got approved for a special diet for myself!LOL! A whole extra 55 a month in my pension check. Whoopppeeee! Just had to vent. Shadoe

WOW! When Frick was alive we were using feline SO for him and it was a little over $1 per can. That sure is a big increase

Take heart, gf! If Hill's keeps raising their prices so rediculously high this way, it won't be long until they lose all their constomers and that'll force them to make their product more affordable. As for cooking for your kitty. Do you have a pressure cooker? Often by using one you can cut way down on the cooking time. lol Hugs, Greta

We have a lot of clients that are now cooking for their pets just for that reason. All the prescription foods have gone up in price. Most of the clients say it is cheeper to cook for them.

lol well yeah... but it makes sense ya know? ferrets know how to catch their own dinner lol... and the cheapest possible fattiest bits from the grocery store are better for them than the expensive tidbits i'd buy for me lol....
i do stock up on a quality kibble though for fosters or emergencies or what have you ... most of mine look at me if i'm nuts if i try and give it to them for their dinners though lol
sides... its great exersize for us... and for them!

Lorelei I am with you all the way on that one lol I have been around working ferrets all my life and have worked my own since I was 7 ( I am 48 now lol ) only hard part about it is packing the nets back up and picking up the catch and the long long long walk back to the car ( ever noticed your never tired going from set to set but when its time to go home you suddenly become weak and shattered lol and with each step those bunnys get heavier and heavier and the car seems to get further away lol ) mine are the same with regards to kibble they look at me as if to say yeah whatever lol and dont know about excersise after all these years I am shrinking and my bones are creaking too many wet knees I guess lol its great talking to another female ferreter lol there are too many men who think they know it all and too many farmers who look at you as if to say but your a woman and thats a ferret they bite lol yeah right lol take care bye for now crazy lady

lol... also ever notice that the HILL is always on the way back loaded with nets, bunnies and crippled with exhaustion?? lol...
i'm down here in devon we mostly have hedge sets.. UGG!! i hate digging my way through the hedge to set a net.. only to have a ferret nudge it aside 10 min later so you have to crawl under the hawthorn for a 10th time to reset it... lol
but yeah we have a great time... and i swear the ferrets KNOW when its time to go hunting.. they go bonkers!!

Lorelei you sound just like me I can picture it oh so perfect lol the net is set you get your hood of your jacket caught in the hedge on teh way out fro setting it I usually end up placing my hand down in a patch of nettles and of course when the rabbit bolts he pulls the net into the thickest part of the hedge lol never the side that is easy to cover and it takes an age picking all the bits out of the net before you can reset it ! lol ( I usually give up and do those at home just lay a new one lol lazy lol ) another of my famous tricks is I concentrate so hard when I hear the thump thump ( I usually kneel so I dont have to bend quickly because I will fall over lol ) you can guarentee I will be the one who dives and kneels in a fresh cow pat ! ( never let it be said a ferreter doesnt take risks lol ) I have walked over to a promising set in the past only to find myself sinking in mud and balancing on one leg like a stork while my wellington is stuck there solid lol you have to have a sense of humour to go ferreting thats for sure (well and be crazy lol ) and I agree they do love working as soon as I get out the bow back boxs my lot dance at the cage fronts as if to say me oh me please take me today lol happy hunting lol take care bye for now crazy lady

One of our new adoptees is on duck soup daily and I first was using the Hills A/D but as usual I like to vary their food. I tried Merricks "Before Grain" Quail and she loves it. It is quail and water, nothing else added to it and if you are in the USA you can shop online www.merrickpetcare.com/store/detail.php?c=114&s=20477 , a case of 24 of this is $31.92 with free shipping.

What a hoot you two are. I love hearing the UK tales of ferreteering. I'm surprised you haven;t met each other in real life

North east hear lol but I do judge a lot of shows and at one time used to attend them to show Think the furthest south I have been when winning shows was the best of the best ( won that twice an all champion show ) and the midland game fair ( won that three years running lol ) now that is a good day out lol you name it hunting wise they have it for sale there along with a 300 plus entry of ferrets ( 2 day show ) take plenty of money with you if you ever attend though they have everything from huge balls of hemp ( if you knit your own nets ) to hand tooled leather locator covers and collars lol and of course you can have a great day watching the lurchers and terriers at work lol take care bye for now crazy lady
