update on what happened

I finally talked to Mitten's doctor. I tried to not get emotional but the tears gushed as she remorsefully apologized for what happened to Mittens. She says that she felt confident that everything was going well and then all of a sudden the vena cava was cut. She truly sounded remorseful. I told her that I don't think I could trust her to do any more surgeries on my ferrets. She said that she understood.
I know that I could take her to court, but what good would it do? She really regrets what happened and it wouldn't bring Mittens back.
She also is not charging me for the surgery only for his cremation (which is from an outside source).
I also received a nice card signed by everyone in the office.
Rest In Peace, my Mittens, I am sooo sorry!

Unfortunately this is the exact reason why so many vets will not operate on the right adrenal. ANything too close to that vena cava can be disasterous. I think she was over confident...I'm glad that at least you are not being charged. Small thanks but at least I think she is admitting an error

I agree with the way you're looking at this, Christina. Taking the vet to court will not bring MIttens back. It is self destructive to harbor hateful feelings toward another human being, and you'll heal faster by accepting the vet's remorse and letting go. Little MIttens is in a better place now, but this shouldn't have happened. A lesson was learned here and it will benefit the next ferret this vet sees with a right adrenal cancer. How hard it can be on your heart and soul

Mittens must to reast in Peace now. You have done all that the heart of wonderful mommy as you can do.
