I have both happy news and sad news. First the happy news. We just adopted a 4 month old boy who is such a kick. He was surrendered because the people had a 1 1/2 yr old child and the ferret was nippy, so they couldn't handle it. Of course he's nippy, he's a kit, but he doesn't bite hard at all! He was in a little cage with no food bowl, food was thrown on the floor. He had no blanket, just care fresh , and was never let out of the cage. Well now he has a food bowl, which he practically crawls into to eat, he eats his soup by slurping it from the other side of the bowl, then shakes his head and licks it off the floor, he such a messy eater. And he's never caged. But he is the sweetest boy. He is mostly white, with a blackish tail and a dark stripe down the middle of his back, he is deaf. He is a beefy boy too, never holding still. We love him to bits. My girlfriend that I adopted him from, had lost her boy Max the morning we got our boy. Our boy looks alot like her Max, so in honor of Max, we named our boy Maximus, Max or Maxie for short.
Now the sad new. I will probably be putting my old girl Fizzle to sleep late this week or next. She is nearly 8 yrs old, can barely walk from crippled feet, she's adrenal, insulinomic and has IBD. We're really having a problem getting the IBD under control. I have to give her fluids twice a day because she's pooping out too much liquid. I think it's her time, she looks like she's tired of all of this.
Plus I will be losing my baby Zoe soon. Zoe is 4 yrs old next month. She has squamous cell carcinoma in her mouth. She has a soft tissue tumor along side her teeth on the bottom jaw. We had a biopsy done and it is cancer. The vet says chemo won't work on this either. The only real help is to have it removed, but that means removing part of her lower jaw also. The cancer can spread to the lymh nodes and may have already, we don't know. Apparently it can spread to the lungs too. I don't want to put her through that tramactic surgery only to have it come back somewhere else. So we will keep her happy and give her as many treats and as much soup as she wants until we see her in pain or failing, then we will have to put her to sleep. It breaks my heart, she is such a sweet girl and so beautiful. I have her on pred, 1cc twice a day, it may help or it may not, we'll see. Right now you'd never know anything was wrong, she eats well and acts normal.
I'm enjoying every moment with her.
