It's been years since I had to clip my ferrets toenails by myself. Normally my husband just holds them on their backs in his lap, they just stay there as he mesmerizes them talking to them and I clip away. We usually do them every 2 weeks. When I have been away on vacation , hubby will take them to the vet to have the vet tech clip them as he's afraid that he is too clumsy. And He's never really been gone for more than two weeks, so I havent had to do it.
So today I had to bite the bullet. In the old days I used to sit on the floor and put nutrical on my knee, they would lick it off and I'd do their nail. But Powder and Scout don't like nutrical. Hmm...what do I use. AHA Ferretone! So many times I heard about people putting a few drops on their bellies and while they were licking it off, clip away.
Well lo and behold, that worked! The didn't even know they were having their nails clipped.
I still have Mac's to do, but he just ate, so I don't want to give him extra stuff until right before I leave for work.
How many yeasr have I been owned by ferrets and have never used ferretone this way? 30!!!!

Ferretone or olive oil has always worked for me. I love the snuggle time afterwards as they lick it all off.

Old dogs (sorry, adage) can learn new tricks! The oil spreads out and they lick for 10 minutes. You could shave them bald and they wouldn't notice

We too have always used the ferretone on the tummy to clip nails. The two I have now are the only ones that have given me any trouble when I do it that way. Thees two will let me get two or three nails and then they start to wiggle to get up. My husband then has to scruff them so I can complete the job.
