I posted a pic of Rosa and Pandy on my new college class's facebook page and I get all these comments about how ferrets stink, ferrets freak me out, etc, and my CLASS (?) PRESIDENT posts an article about how some ferret somewhere chewed off a baby's fingers. Not one comment like, how cute. First week and I'm already ticked off with this class. Thank God I only have 4 hours a week with them. Unless he had seen that story in a Missouri newspaper, he had to have searched the web for something negative about ferrets. My original class was mostly older and certainly more mature. I tried to share my hobby/passion with them so they could get to know me a little and all I get is negative comments. It was intended as sarcasm, a field in which I specialize, but the baby story was not funny in any context. I guess there's no point in sharing anything with them other than school related stuff.

It looks like you found a bunch of people that have never had the wonderful experience of knowing and loving pets as family members! Anyone that has known a ferret that was in a loving home would know that ferrets are sweet little clowns. Ferrets, like any pet must be properly cared for, loved and supervised around small children. That ferret did not chew off the babies fingers. There is no way a ferret could do that without it taking hours and hours of unsupervised interaction.

I made that point Dee. Someone on holistic ferret said that they also owned dogs and they were gone for hours. I'm gonna have to talk to the class pres eventually and let him know that I'm a bit sensitive when it comes to my fuzzbutts so maybe I over reacted a tad. I can't go thru the next months as a pariah. One of the middle aged ladies stopped me on the way out of class yesterday to chat. She commented on how young and immature the class is. I said that the average age of this class is at least 5 years younger than my original class and it shows. There's hope for me.
