On July 15th, someone rang mom's doorbell. Mom was greeted by a member of the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly who proceeded to present mom and read aloud a color, 11x14 officially sealed letter of honor to my Dad. None of knew this was coming and still cannot fathom how it came to be. Usually reserved for members of the military or those who held political office, we were all quite blown away by this honor. The same illness that made mom and dad meet, and eventually took dad from us, kept him out of he service, his sister however was in the Army. Mom's sent all of us color copies, I've framed mine for the wall, I'm sure we all will. I have a copy for my niece (sister's daughter) and my nephew (brother's son) who both live in Colorado and I'm going to see them the weekend of Aug. 8th to give them their copies. I love that Dad was honored in this way and my favorite lines include them speaking about his Sports Shop and giving his customer's his wisdom as an outdoorsman, but my favorite is towards the end ... "Within all the spheres of his life and work Claude D. "Chick" Jaillet, Jr. established a model to emulate and set a standard of excellence towards which others might strive..."That was Dad. Wanted to share - photos attached, hope they are readable. xo
