Yesterday was Mac's yearly check-up and rabies shot.
Of course he sees the vet a lot more often because of his lymphoma.
Well appt was at 8 and Joe was home with Mac by 8:45, knowing hubby he was probably there at 7:30 LOL always the early appt person.
Joe had to go to the VA and I was still in bed.
All of a sudden Mac started in with a cough that was horrible, worse than I have ever seen
Nothing seemed to calm him
Usually water with drops of ferretone works, If not that nutrical and/ or soupy.
But I tried everything and he was still coughing.
Too much of a strain for the little (BIG) guy.
Grabbed some clothes, brushed my teeth picked up the phone and said...I'm coming back!
Now of course you know that the vet is about 10 minutes from my house, and as soon as I put Mac in his favorite transport kennel, he stopped coughing. Are they going to think I'm crazy?
As soon as I walked in they grabbed Mac and took him in the back.
The vet tech that took him had not seen him for a while and seeing his pink belly though that maybe it was a reaction.
But I have witnessed one reaction and hope I never do again, and this was not it.
While he was with the vet he did have a few of the coughs that I was talking about, of course usually petting and rubbing helps him also.
They kept him for a while and gave him a steroid shot which really calmed and zonked him out.
The rest of the day and up to now has been very quiet and calm. he has eaten his normal amount.
The only thing that was different was that he pooped and peed on the scatter rug next to the basket he was sleeping in.
This may not seem odd, but Mac, from the day he adopted us has never had an accident. He has always been able to get to his papers. This I attribute to his being zonked out and probably half asleep even though he was awake.
We know that Mac has been living on borrowed time, but he is still enjoying a good life and as long as that is possible, we will do anything necessary for him. Right now he is sleeping in the big cage with the young-uns LOL
