There are a lot of photos and I'll give you the link to my PB album which I made public.
As usual you are free to save and use any photo you like, just giving me photo by Huronna credit.
I'll just put a few here in this thread as each photo has a description on it.
As you know we all arrived in Istanbul for the first leg of our journey...without any luggage.
Luckily it arrived the next day in the evening as we were beginning to have our own scent.
This is an aerial view of Old Istanbul
Our first stop was to the Topkapi Palace.
As you enter the first gate
You will arrive in the inner gardens
I've never seen so many roses in all my life. They were everywhere
There were many buildings in the complex and this is one of the newer Mosques
There were many of these fellows wandering about, not only in the garden area, but actually all around Istanbul
I have no idea what this says. It was above an entry gate.
I think it was the Sultan's name in old Arabic
I actually bought a ring with this same design as my token of the trip.
This place was enormous.
I had been here in 1974 and the only thing different was the museums displays.
It was impossible to get any photos because the room was very dark,
with everything behind bullet proof glass which gave a terrible reflection
Located on the top of a hill, the panoramic views were beautiful
The next stop was the Sofia Mosque
The height of the building is amazing.
And the dome is incredible
There are Christian symbols
Mixed in with Muslim images.
And the chandeliers are huge
Outside of the mosques there are washing or purification areas
Next stop was the Blue Mosque...it is as beautiful as it was 40 years ago,
Of course that is just a smidgen in it's life
We had some free time to shop and what did we find?
Of course, they are everywhere now!
And how about this in the window.
Stuffed, not real
So ended the first day and the next day began with a trip to the Spice Market
Every spice you can imagine plus the wonderful Turkish candies.
Not the Turkish toffee you misght have tasted, these just about melted in your mouth
We ended our day in Istanbul with a mini-cruise around the Bosporus to see how the other half lived LOL

If you start from pages 3, and go in reverse, you will actually be going in order of the trip/
Thanks for taking the first steps with me in our travels.
