I'm sure all of you know how difficult it is to "get away".
There aren't ferret hotels like there are cat and dog and you really need a ferret person to come and stay in your ferret proofed home, or you take care of a friends. But it definitely in not easy.
We're had ferrets since 1984 and we took lots of separate vacations so that the other half would be there to care for the babies.
Or we had friends come and stay at the house, usually with their ferrets to care for things.
Well about two years ago, my regular vet retired and his partner took over. The partner was young had had lots of visions and he has succeeded. He wound up buying a foreclosed church and completely renovated it. Just to give you an idea, the waiting room and reception are probably bigger than the entire old clinic was. But size didn't matter, these two vets were amazing and so good with the ferrets.
One of the thing incorporated in the new place was boarding. from everything to birds, hamsters and great Danes.
In august last year, we had a long weekend to go to in Atlanta, In the past maybe Joe would go and I would use the excuse that I was scheduled to work. But this time we decided to try the "luxury pet motel" as they kiddingly call it. They have this one room called the cat condo room and you can open up each condo into another to make for bigger and bigger living spaces. So we rented two adjoining ones. One we put all their bedding and food in and the opening left to the other which was used a the bathroom. Really and Mac had a great time. They take care of Mac's special food and the fact that they are paper trained rather than liter box. Of course we do bring quite a supply of newspapers for them.
Then Really passed away a few weeks later of an aneurysm (sob) and when we were going on a week's cruise we took Mac there. Only this time we only rented one condo.
So tomorrow is the big adventure for Scout, Powder and Mac. We rented two adjoining condos, will bring bedding and tubes and stuff to decorate their one condo and supplies for "the other one" They will be there until Monday even though we get back on Sunday and there is someone to care for them on Sunday, there is no one to do the release papers etc and final checks until Monday.
It really is a blessing especially since Mac is elderly, has a few problems, is on special food and medicine.....and the vet is there...just in case. Oh actually there are 3 vets now, and all are ferret-wise. So we can relax and travel a bit to a wedding.
