Rosa!

We adopted Rosa from Broward Ferret Rescue today. She's a feisty 1 1/2 year old albino who has been at the shelter a long time. She's going to be a project, as she bites, digs out food bowls and litter boxes and has not been exposed to other ferrets muc simply because the shelter mom hasn't haad the time to give her. She is really sweet, she just needs some space and time.

ntros so far have been so-so. Rosa has made it clear that she needs her space, at least for now. There have been a couple incidents, but it is Rosa who starts them and does all the screaming. She is such a drama queen. This morning she bit Yoshi, just for sniffing her, and he was so upset that I swear he cried on his way to hide in a tunnel. I've honestly never heard a ferret make that sound before. And he was shaking like you do when you cry.
Jaffa agave up and walked away dejected after she yelled at him, too. So far only Abita and Pandy have not been told off. I'm hoping she gets on with Abita, at least, because they have similar energy levels. She's still adjusting.

in all my years of being a ferret mom, I've only encountered one ferret that hated another. That was Dexie abd he would go after Silveretta with a vengence. Though he was a sweetheart with Mika, Mischief, Frick and Frack
we actually had to play musical ferrets for almost two years, until Silveretta died at almost 9

She is already doing so much better! Tonight when I reached under the futon to bring her out, she started to bite me once, but stopped at a nip. When she hides, she will come to me when I scratch on the floor. She found the soup and lapped up a bit without being forced. She now tolerates Pandy, Abita and Alice without getting scared or attacking. Still have to watch out for Yoshi. Tonight we had to give him a short time out, but when he came out, he was ok.
Cute stuff: She has adopted a mini tennis ball that Yoshi had already stripped the fuzz from as her favorite toy. She brought it in the cage and put it in her bed. When she woke up, the first thing she did was make sure it was still there. She plays with it in the cage, and none of my ferrets ever played with toys in the cage, probably because they have plenty of out time.
When she wakes up and we reach in the cage she goes in the litter box and pretends to poop. But she will keep going back in until she does poop.
And when she is ready for bed, she goes in the cage.
We're looking forward to the day that I can get a picture of her eating soups with the others and send it to her shelter mom. I'm pretty confident it will happen within 2 weeks, but nothing is being forced.

We're not there yet. She still isn't sure how to play with the others. She's doing better with Yoshi and tolerates Abita. Tonight I thought they were fighting so I pulled Yoshi away from her but when I put him down she came back to him. He walked off, I think because he thought I was gonna give him time out again. I may have misjudged him. He and Abita will be the ones who break her. Bedee (Abita) follows her around a lot and will just sit there with her nose 1/2 inch away from her. Rosa usually checks Bedee out and lets her be. Tonight this happened while Rosa was eating her soupies. If Rosa decides someone gets too close she snaps at them, and where the others will all walk away Beeds just hangs in there without getting aggressive or snapping back. I knew the first time I met Rosa that she and Abita would probably get on eventually.

She is my first rescue in 4 years, and Dar's first ever, but Dar has been right on in her judgement calls.
We also discovered that Rosa has a toe tattoo, the first one either of us has seen.

And the best (?) news, I got kisses last night too!

Rosa has found a wonderful forever home with two great people to love and care for her. I love the all pictures, but the last one with the sleeping baby is my favorite.

Not exactly dooking and dancing, but today Rosa and Abita did have their first real play session. Dar says it went on for some time, and she got a few seconds of video. There was no fighting. We've opened the levels in the cage and haven't heard any squealing, and Rosa is sleeping in the big hammie in the bottom level. She had been locked upstairs.

I'm glad the audio came thru!! Since Saturday I've been bunking Pandora with her. Today I added Abita and there was no fighting.

Haha, I put Abita and Pandora in the hammock tonight not knowing Rosa was already there. Went back to check on them a few minutes later and Rosa had her head on Pandy's side.

She is really pretty. she looks small. Love the pictures. I hope her new owner treat her good. With all those ferret i don't think I could give her up after all that work you did. I am glad she is getting along with the other. But is she going to have other ferrets at her new home? I be afraid that they may have to start all over again for her to get use to. I would love to have another ferret but I have 2 and they are my last. Hard to take care of them.

Hard to see in this pic, but I didn't want to disturb them. Rosa is on the left, YOSHI is in the middle, and Pandy is on the right. I still think she has a crush on Yoshi, but this is a HUGE step.

Our girl is doing well. She can be so bouncy when she's in the mood for play. This morning she was playing with Pandora, Smokie and Abita for a couple minutes that I saw, just in the tunnels on the porch, but she was the one trying to get them to play with her. She's finally learning that play doesn't have to start with nipping and squealing, lol. She still has a thing about finding one in bed (a drawer or closet) and making a stink if she wants that spot, but more and more she will just squeak once or twice and settle in alongside whoever was there first. It's been a few days since she had that issue with Yoshi or Smokie, but Jaffa is our huge bull ferret and he doesn't take anything from anyone, except tiny Alice. We are going to leave the levels open for now, unless the problem returns. It's over a month, and she needs to know that no one will bother her.

Here is a pic of Rosa sharing a meal with Yoshi, who I think has a crush on her, and it may be mutual.
Remember, Yoshi is the one she used to cause the most trouble.
