I have been owned by ferrets since 1984, that's 30 years and I have never had a ferret that didn't get paper trained or corner trained within a day or two. Of course there have always been the rare mistake but I guess I have been totally spoiled.
But now arrived my two new adoptees. Powder is an angel and it took her 1 day if that. While Scout is definitely a different story.
He didn't do well the first couple of days but then he seemed to be fine. Until about two weeks ago, I think.
Scout started to pee and poop under the bed. I didn't notice it until i went to get a toy that rolled under the bed and there they were 4 poops and their accompanied pees. Thanks goodness we have tile floors, so I cleaned and scrubbed and sprayed. Since he and Mac sleep in the end table drawer on the right side of the bed and the papers are on the left side, I though maybe when he woke up he was in a rush to go and running under the bed to the other side of the room he just couldn't make it.
Soooo....we changed the end tables so the one they sleep in is right next to the papers. When he climbs out of the hole in the back of the table, he can either go to one side to the papers or front wards because on the other side is a plushy basket. But I guess he sometimes goes on the papers and then other time...yes you guessed it...under the bed.
I know it is him because Powder sleeps in the big cage usually and always potties on the paper towels in the corner or if she used the papers in the other corner it is right smack into the corner and a very lady like size pee and poo. Mac's poop on the other had in mushy because he eats baby food and pulverized TF. SO you can tell the culprit by his poop.
I've tried waking up Scout after he has been asleep for 3-4 hours and keeping him by the papers, but after ten times of putting him on the paper he will climb back into the drawer and the minute you are not watching out he comes. Like this morning, the minute mu husband opened up the bedroom door, out he ran to the foyer and peed.
I welcome any suggestions beside pulling out my hair.
Oh and he doesn't do it all the time. Just when you least expect it. And it's not like a ferret who usually goes in a corner..it's in the middle of a room.
ARGHHHHHH help!
