Meeko was mostly nekkid from adrenal. 1 week ago Weds, he got an implant. Look at all the hair in only 1 week!!! Close up of the fuzziness This is the first ferret I have used the implant on. It is also the first ferret my vet has treated with an implant. I love that my vet is willing to try new things and expand her knowledge. One of my ferrets was also the first in my area to get a melatonin implant several years ago. My vet is keeping a close eye on his progress, and I will be taking weekly photos for her. I am really excited by this whole thing, and it is wonderful to know that the next ferret who presents with Adrenal, the owner will have another treatment option.

That is really amazing. The fasted regrowth I have seen in my ferrets was 3 weeks with Lupron, but one week? I will definitely have to remember that. Just for information, where did you vet order it from?

Huronna---- This is the website for the only place in the US a vet can order the Deslorelin. There is a lot of info on the site, both for ferret owners and for vets. The implant is something you only have to do once a year!! virbacferretsusa.com/homeI think what is even more impressive to me than the hair regrowth.... When I picked him up today I noticed how much more "solid" he felt. Like he is also adding muscle tone.

Thanks, I have a check up appt with Mac next week, so I'll take the info to my vet. I've always used Lupron! but that is quite pricey. The melatonin implants never seems to work on my kids. Can I ask what this implant costs?

At my vet it cost me $270. But I have seen others online that got it for a lot less. I know one said it was only $150 for her. But when you figure it is something that only needs to be done once a year, vs several times a year for Lupron, the cost actually comes out less. I don't know what you pay for Lupron where you are at. But my last one who needed it was to the point where she got it every 2-3 months, and it was costing me about $125 each time. That was a few years ago, so I imagine the cost would be higher now.

That's great! Poppy was the first one that my vet gave it to tho she has treated ferrets for some time. Jaffa will be next., sometime in January. The needle is so big the vet is the only person Poppy ever bit. It cost us $190 plus office visit.

I'm going to have one of my kids done with the implant this month. It will be the first for me also. It's $160 plus office visit. I'm so glad that you showed pictures of how well it worked I'm a little nervous. I've always had surgery done if the baby is young enough if not I opted for Lupron.

I guess it is about as expensive as Lupron. I've always used the 4 month depot shot and it cost $245. Usually lasts close to a year. Since I bring in the Lupron, My vet usually doesn't charge for a visit as we had one when we discussed it and he put through the order and then I call the pharmacy with my credit card.
Furballlover, if you could take some before photos, that would be good for us to see your results also

Furball lover.... Just a warning for when you get it done. The needle is HUGE!! It is about the size of a microchip needle (if you have ever seen one of those) I guess some vets will give a little gas before the implant. Meeko was so chilled out and focused on his Tone, she just scruffed him and did it. He took it like a champ!
I have also heard with the implant that some people are getting one done on their ferret when the ferret reaches a certain age. Even if they aren't showing any signs of adrenal. Doing the implant as a preventative measure.

My Squishy isn't bald yet. His Butt around his tail has a small bald spot he's a Marshall's & almost 6 yrs old so gotta figure it's adrenal. The rest of his fur is still pretty decent not as much undercoat this winter so I figure rather safe than sorry getting this implant. That needle UGH! I don't look when the vet takes blood so I definately will not look when Squishy gets the implant OUCH! Do they bleed much afer?

Meeko looks Great! We have used Lupron, Melatonin, and Deslorelin. We have had good results from them all none as fast as Meeko. The Des lasted the longest. Each ferret is different in how they react. Please keep sharing the results with us. Thank you.

Sometimes the vet will use a dab of Dermabond to close up the injection. I don't remember Poppy needing it, but you could see how big the needle hole was.

Well Squishy got his implant on Friday. I had the vet tech distract him with tone and he never even noticed that huge needle UGH! He has a little scab where he was injected. I do have a question for you guys that have had the implant before. Do your ferrets get tired for a few days? I noticed Squishy is sleeping alot. He is eating and will play with me.

There does seem to be an after implant reaction, especially if they are advanced in the ACD. Only the first time or so I've noticed.
