Good vet visit

Took all 8 ferrets in for their annual checkup/ rabies vax yesterday. The vet said they are all in pretty good health. The only exception is Meeko, who is showing signs of adrenal gland disease. I have dealt with it before, so was 99% sure he had it before we went. Vet just confirmed it. So they are ordering a Deslorelin implant for him. My vet has never done one before, and a first for me as well. I took the info on it into my vet, and she checked out the website and called their information number. Then got back with me and we discussed what she found out and decided to go this route. This is why I love my vets (all 4 in the clinic) They know I am active in the online ferret community, and listen when I bring up new treatments. Mine were the first ferrets in this area to get melatonin implants as well.

My vet was very amused by the ferrets. I had them roaming around the exam room, and they were playing. It just cracked her up! Plus the majority of mine are fairly large. She says she loves seeing my big, healthy, sociable ferrets. She even had the tech takes pictures of her with Zoboo, and even took him in the back of the clinic to show him off. She just couldn't get over his size! LOL Here are their current weights..

Zoboo (3 yrs-nicknamed Cubba Wubba lol) 4 lbs
Boone (just turned a yr, will probably get bigger) 3lbs
Loki ( yrs old) 2 3/4 lbs
Lucky (3 yrs) 2 1/2 lbs
Diva (1 yr) & Meeko (approx. 7 yrs) both 2 lbs

Then there are the "tiny terrors" I adopted them from a ferret shelter where they lived for almost 2 years due to biting issues. They are sweet now. Both 3 yrs old

Bella 1 1/4 lbs

Yeah! A good vet visit! I love that kind of news! I am sure it is due to your great care. Is there anything special you do? The reason I ask is because mine are on Melatonin/Ferretone regiment every day. I started it a few years ago, before the three I have now came to live with me. They get the Melatonin in soup in the early afternoon and Ferretone as a bedtime treat. I am trying to prevent or at least delay some of the cancers ferrets are prone to.  I don't know if it works.  Zoey and Zeus were both under a year when I got them.  Dusty was five years old when we started him.  Zoey is now five, Zeus is three and Dusty will be seven in March.
