So the vet confirmed what we already knew- Poppy has adrenal. Just can't go very long without medical issues. Kahlua had it and insulinoma and Booboo has insulinoma. The vet will be ordering a Suprelorin implant tomorrow.
And surprise! her upper left canine is broken off at the gum line. I didn't see any pulp, or hole in the middle, and she shows no pain even when we touched it, so she got pretty lucky. I can't believe I never noticed it. I checked her teeth last week. She probably broke it when she missed a leap from couch to coffee table.
She was a very good girl at the vet. She actually sat pretty still when the vet was listening to her heart and lungs. She is one ferret that will be very hard to live without when the day comes. I've had her and Alice over 4 years now. They both used to be trouble makers and have escaped outside multiple times but always came home.

Sorry to hear this, but I think we all realize it comes with loving these fuzzbutts One of my ferrets had lost his canine and then 4 little teeth. Didn't keep him from living to 9 1/2 LOL Let me know how that implant works

It is always so painful when we learn that one of our dear babies has cancer. We know that the chances are slim that they won't get some type of cancer, but it still hurts when we get the official news. You and Dar have given all your ferrets such great care and love. I know you will make sure Poppy have the best care and lots of love as her cancer progresses. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dee, we're not thinking we'll lose her to adrenal. Kahlua had it for 5 years and lived to 8 1/2. It was probably a combo of the big three, but at the end she did not look adrenal, just old and tired. I will, of course, keep posting on Poppy/Carol, but the best report will be nothing to report, lol. And yeah, something will get them all eventually, and I expect them to all get adrenal eventually. All of my older guys did, but des was not an option. Jaffa is now 4 1/2. He's a private-bred. We're hoping he is the exception, but we won't hesitate to get him a Des implant. If it helps at all it's awesome. Poppy does not appear at all to have the aggressive adrenal cancer. She's not even shedding yet so we are very optimistic. She'll be 5 around Thanksgiving.
Btw, Boodles is going bald now too. We have melatonin implants, and he will get one tomorrow. With his cancer and our budget, we can't justify another $250 for him. Plus the vet would probably faint when she saw his tumors. He's basically Hospice now, but we can do the implant here.

Poppy got her des implant today. I've personally done sub-q fluids and melatonin implants but that needle was big. Never saw a fert flinch from a shot before. Dr Bartos finally decided to put a spot of dermabond (skin glue) on the wound. Poppy actually bit her and she's never bitten anyone ever. Poppy squirmed just enough that the doc lost her grip on the syringe so it took longer to inject than is should have. Otherwise the doc and the techs were just in love with her. Here's a pic of her booboo.
