I took Kahlua, our Grand Old Lady (she's well past 8 yo), to be helped across the Rainbow Bridge today. She's been battling adrenal and insulinoma for some time, as well as being deaf her whole life and recently losing her sight. The last month she's been steadily declining. We keep expecting she'll go in her sleep, but instead we find that she dragged herself to the litter box and didn't have the energy left to walk back to her hammock. It's amazing how much fight this tiny little lady had put up, but she barely had the strength left to eat. She was barely 2 pounds in her prime, but she was a shoe thief (especially flip flops) and she didn't just stash them under a bed, but behind dressers and china cabinets, in drawers, etc, so you really had to search for them. Even after going blind she managed to continue putting shoes away for us. She was one who knew exactly how hard she could nip and get away with it. When she wanted attention or treats, she'd nip your toes. Kahlua decided to leave us in the exam room before the vet saw her. She "pulled a Frank" on me, making it to the vet but going before it cost us any money. (Frank had a heart attack on the table while the vet was trying to give him a PTS injection) She was one of Dar's originals, whom she got in 2007, age unknown at that time. Good-bye Angel. Mommy and Daddy could not have asked for a sweeter girl.

n a place of rainbows, Kahlua dances and plays. She is smiling, because she left with a heart full of love. Now a new bright star is shining in the night sky. Watch carefully and you'll see her winking. When you feel that unexplained warm feeling in your ear, that's her saying hello. When you feel something brush your ankle, she stopped by to say hi.

Dance on, Little Kahlua! As they say, a lady always knows to leave the party a bit early. We'll miss the stories about your shoe-stealing and other adventures, but wasn't it fun while it lasted?!? You were loved and well-cared for (some would say spoiled ) while you were here, but isn't that the best a ferret can hope for? Your ferrants' hearts are breaking, but we will comfort them for you. Our sympathies are with them.
