One of my newest ferrets, Luna, made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge today. I noticed a few days ago she seemed to be losing weight. Her former owner from Cadillac had told me she lost weight like that once before. She had taken her to the vet, and they had even done a lot of tests, including an exploratory surgery. Eventually it was put down to stress due to a move. So I increased her soup, and was keeping an eye on her. She ate her soup good last night at about 6 pm. I fell asleep shortly after that, so none of the ferrets got their 11 pm soup like they usually do. I woke up around 10 am, and with one thing and another, I didn't get into the ferret room until after noon. I found Luna in a full seizure, very cool to the touch. I immediately gave her some syrup in a syringe. Then I called my vet, but they alternate taking emergencies with a vet about 30 miles away. And unfortunately, they weren't taking emergencies this weekend. I was able to get her into another vet here in town. She gave Luna dextrose, and also some sub-q fluids. The vet felt a mass in her belly when she examined her. She seemed to start coming around, but never really responded. After about an hour at the vet, she started to deteriorate, so I made the decision to have the vet help her cross. I had Luna exactly one month. I feel like I let her down. I knew she wasn't doing well, and then missed giving her soup for almost 18 hours. And I didn't check on her immediately when I woke up. It may not have made a difference, but maybe it would have. Maybe she would still be here. I'll never know, and it kills me. This is the only pic I have of Luna.

my heart goes out to you, I know how you feel, I have had the same thing happen with my ferrets that i have taken in from someone else. you gave her a wonderful month with you and she knew it. In my heart i believe this. I have been through this many many times and it never gets easier. I just lost my dog yesterday and she was with me 9 years. My heart has a hole in it and i am empty. My baby is at the bridge. I have one dog and three ferrets now. I will light a candle for Luna. You will see her again and when a breeze or raindrop kisses your cheek that is luna telling you she is okay and she loves you.

I am very sorry for Luna's passing. Please don't blame yourself at all, you were a loving mom and gave Luna a loving home and life. Bless, sending hugs and kind thoughts xo

I'm really sorry. Do you know how old she was? We do our best, and in the end, sad to say, they all cross the Bridge. Doing the best YOU can do is what matters. A month is barely enough time to get to know a ferret well enough to recognize subtle warning signs. DIP Luna...

Spacey, I'm sorry about Luna also, but don't beat yourself up about it. We are only human and sometimes our bodies need sleep also. It sounds like she was not a healthy ferret to begin with and you gave her your love for as long as you were able. May she rest in peace with all the other fuzzies that went before her

The bright sun is shining on lush green grass, and an opalescent rainbow can be seen in the background. Akio, a new arrival, is checking out the grass and slithering along, when she sees a cute chocolate ferret headed her way. She raises her head and watches her approach.
Honey-Hello, my name is Honey and I'm one of those that help new arrivals at the bridge meet up with their friends.
Luna-Oh, that's why I feel better. My Mom told me about this place.
Honey-Oh, yes, everyone has been waiting patiently for you. We're having a bonfire in your honor too.
Luna dooked and bounced very high.
Honey-Are you ready to go meet everyone?
Luna-Just one minute.
She runs over to the viewing pool, and looks down on her Mom. She whispers Thank You, I love you, and one tiny glistening tear rolls down her nose, and falls into the pool. It goes through the pool and lands on Mom's cheek as a light kiss. She looks up at Honey and nods.
Luna-I'm ready.
Honey-Follow me.
Luna and Honey go bouncing and dooking over to a dirt covered circle, and Luna sees a large crowd around the fire.
Luna- Oh my, are they all here to meet me?
Honey-They sure are, and we're a large group.
Suddenly Luna sees runs over, and they tumble around together in a ferret greeting. That starts a few other wrestling matches, and it takes a while for all to settle down and get back to the business of this busyness, and toast whatever tickles their fancy.
