We decided to take a trip to a museum area to day and I brought you back some photos also
The La Brea Tar Pits (or Rancho La Brea Tar Pits) are a group of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed, in urban Los Angeles. Asphaltum or tar (brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, the bones of animals that were trapped in the tar were preserved. The George C. Page Museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens from the animals that died there. The La Brea Tar Pits are a registered National Natural Landmark.
These are the actual bones that were found, not fabricated ones
The ancient buffalo looked liked this
And here are it's bones
They have a lot of other displays that show the bones in front and what the actual bird looked like
There were a couple of reproductions of animals of the past
And of course there are always some flowers on the outside
There was an adopt a pet function going on on the museum grounds. We probably spend more time there ohhing and ahing and petting, but did not bring any home.
I did take a couple photos of Bill's fish. They have grown immensely since I was here last year.
Not to worry the cat doesn't even realize they exist
