Since I've been in Chicago staying with my daughter for our summer get-together, I have contacted the GCFA ferret shelter in Lyons, a little suburb town of Chicago. Early next week I am to keep an appointment so I can be interviewed as the new mom for a big chocolate mitt boy named Garfield. I fell in love with Garfield's photo as I was viewing the adoptable fur kids the GCFA has to offer. His pic just jumped out at me and stayed there. LOL Garfield is 3 years old and was a stray, rescued by the shelter when he was found roaming the streets of Chicago ... just like my Cinco, by whom I was owned for 7 years. After his rescue, Garfield underwent surgery for an abcess on his side which probably resulted from an infection he picked up from an injury as he fought to survive his awful predicament. I won't know until next Monday whether Garfield and I are considered a good match by the shelter, but if we are (and I'm almost positive Gar will be mine soon), Robin (LaF) will post his photo so you all can see just why I have fallen so in love with this boy. A happy Mommy GG

I just finished emailing Robin (LaF) asking her to post Garfield's photo. Robin may be on the road now, as she and her hubster are travelling to AZ today to store some packed boxes in their trailer there. Hopefully , you'll see Ozzie's potential new brother very soon. I am thinking of changing Garfield's name to Amigo (friend in Spanish), as he will be a great friend to my Oz Man. Garfield does look lots like the comic strip cat, Garfield, though. You'll see what I mean when his pic is posted. Hugs, Greta

Oh Greta what great news that is. I cheated and went to GCFA and peeked. OMG he is beautiful. If I ever say I am coming to Niles, be afraid, be very afraid, there might be a kitnapping LOL I sure hope you get him. He couldn't have a better mommy and brother.

Isn't he adorable, Char? To me Garfield looks like he's just been given a very special treat and can't believe his good fortune. He just looks so happy and full of life that he stole my heart away and Garfield and I haven't even met yet. I'm so excited. Can't wait to see this wonderful new boy.
I just turned down the opportunity to adopt two perfectly healthy little fur boys who also would have been ideal playmates for my Ozzie. Darn! If I were younger and richer, I'd take them too, but I know my limits and two it is. LOL Hugs, Greta

He is a beauty Greta. Are you taking Ozzie with you for the introductions?

Yeppers, Heidi. Ozzie is coming along for the introduction. I want to make sure Garfield and Oz Man are a good match as playmates. Garfield is friendly too, so there shouldn't be any problems. I found out this morning that there isn't an opening for an interview next Monday either, so I'll call the shelter for an appointment for a week from Sunday. Geeze! I didn't expect to have such a hassle just to adopt a new kid to keep Ozzie from being lonely. My boy just gave me a workout all over my daughter's basement. Ozzie needs to play so badly. I can't let my little (Big?) guy get bored. LOL I'll keep you all posted. Hugs, Greta

Ozzie and I Thank You! from the bottom of our hearts, Robin. I tried to copy and paste Garfield's photo yesterday when I posted this thread, but his pic didn't come up. Today when I came back the photo is right there at the end of my post. Go figure! Oz Man and I are both very grateful to you for taking time from your busy schedule to post Garfield's picture. Huggers, Greta

I'll know for sure when I go for my interview as Garfield's mom a week from Sunday, Linda. But the lady I talked with on the phone yesterday sounded like it's a sure thing, when I told her I had adopted Cinco there about 8 years ago. The shelter has also told me to keep checking back in case there's a candellation for this Sunday, or for the following Monday. They are keeping tabs on this, too. Ozzie really, really needs a buddy. My boy is a bundle of energy, especially since he's lost weight cuz mommy has stopped putting cream in his soup. Hugs, Greta
Thanks a bundle Heidi, for posting Garfield's photo for me at the start of this thread. I'm really excited about this new boy and am trying to keep very busy here to keep my mind off having to wait so long to 'fetch him home.' LOL Hugs, Greta

Greta........ Are you kidding me? You're a definite shoe-in for this boy. I was wondering if the abcess was due to another animal biting him? I love those little guys with the mitts!

I'll say one thing abouit this long wait for the priviledge of belonging to Garfield. It is making this wonderful boy very, very extra special to me. I'm happy that the shelter has so many requests for adoptions, but sure wish they'd been able to squeeze Ozzie and me in a week or so sooner. LOL Sunday is the only day of the weekd the GCFA accepts appointments for adoptions. Hugs, Greta

Larry,, I've wondered too, if the abcess on Garfields side was due to another animal biting him. I know cat bites are infamous for causing infections. Poor little Garfield ... I've been told he's a gentle soull. If he was bitten, he probably didn't even fight back, but just ran from whatever was attacking him. Once this wonderful little Munchkin comes home with Ozzie and me, he won't ever have to worry about his safety again. Hugs, Greta

Guess What!? Garfield is the GCFA shelter's Ferret of the Month! Wow! And soon I'll belong to him. There are no adoption interviews until next Sunday and Oz and I have the first appointment. Methinks the shelter is rooting for us, too. Mommy GG

Oh, thank you, Heidi I hadn't thought about references ... just that I'd mention I'm the asst. manager of the group. This will help a lot in case the shelter needs confirmation that I'm a good fit for Garfield and will make him a great fuzzy mom. Tomorrow is the big day and in just over 24 hours Ozzie and I will be at the shelter with the sole purpose in mind of coming home with Garfield. Thanks again, gf! Hugs, Greta
