I've always lived in a tropical climate since I'ved had ferrets. From 1984-2000 in Puerto Rico and since then in southern Florida. The temperature has usually be quite consistent, if it got cool, it was only for a week or two, not long enough for a ferret to get a winter coat......Until this year.
We started having cold spells back in Oct and periodically our heat would go on, I think for most of Dec, Jan and Feb it was on and remember I mentioned about how fluffy April was?
I guess she actually got a winter coat.
And today, after another week of very warm weather she has decided to shed it.
While my hubby was holding her so I could clip her nails, clumps of fuzz came flying off at my nose. A tiny little tug on her fur and clumps where in my fingers. WOW...I have never experienced this before. Bonita and Mac have a more typical short ferret fur and they are not shedding, but it's a good thing I don;t have any allergies because I feel like I have April fuzz in my nose LOL

Your little April must love to change her clothes, gf. hehehe She just knows it's time now for a new spring coat. What a cuties she is! Ozzie and Itty have not shown any sign of shedding yet and we've been having warmer weather for at least two weeks now. This, after an unusually hard winter though, with bitter cold temps and lots more snow than usual. Maybe their coats are holding out just in case Old Man Winter shows his puffed cheek face around here again. Hugs, Greta
