I have been sewing spring and summer hammocks and sleepy pouches for my 7 little ones. I think with the way it gets so humid here that nice cotton beds would be great for my fuzzies instead of the winter fleece. I did make some new fleece ones as well and am going to still use the frozen water bottles in summer but at least now I have 15 extra hammocks and pouches for laundry days. My eyes are tired though so I am taking a day off to rest and stay away from the comp. In some of the pouches I used those plastic stapping things to make a rim so the pouch isnt always flat and sticks open instead so they dont have such a hard time geting into them. Will take pics later, Shadoe

satin is nice for a hammy, though it is quite slippery when traveling.... mine like the feel of the satin against their fur.... since they like my nightgowns so much i thought i would give it a try and they loved them.....(i would buy the dollar a yard stuff not the $$$$ stuff) ... mommy laurie

Ohhh I wished I could sew...That sounds great making some nice satin or cotton ones for the summer.. I only have the fleece ones I have bought from Ebay..They are quite heavy for summer..But the fuzzies still love to sleep in them.. It's a good thing I keep them in an airconditioned room.. he he
Do you have any pics of your hammies?? I would love to see what you made..

Sewing summer hammies and sleep sacks is an excellent idea, Shadoe. I once bought a piece of expensive red cotton fabric at Walmart thinking I'd sew summer hammies for my babies, too. But then my vision went bad and now I cannot even thread a needle. The fabric is still in my sewing drawer. I chose red because I've heard that red is a color which ferrets can see. I love the idea you have about putting a ring at the opeing of your sleep sacks too, gf. That way your fur kids won't have any trouble finding their way into the sack when they want to nap. Give those eyes of yours a good rest. We'll all be here waiting patiently when you return to us. Hugs, Greta

A few years ago I made mine "summer hammies" out of lt wt cotton. I rarely use them because they love their fleece and sherpa sacks. Of course mine have "air" in their rooms and ceiling fans when the temp gets too hot for them. I have a threader on my machine too and can't use it...I use a magnifying glass to thread the needle.

i won't give up on the threader. have found out that you have to get the thread just so, just in the right position and the right tension and it works just takes some extra time. i am better getting the thread in the needle eyes for hand sewing... ya'll have a good day... mommie laurie
