;DWe got the two girls today. And talk about a dump and run . . . I barely got to ask the guy their names!! He had told me on the phone that one of them was a panda. Imagine our surprise when we picked up two silver mitts! Anyway, he didn't even cut his car off. He took the cage out of his front seat, handed it to hubby, stayed long enough for me to get their names and ages, then he almost burned rubber taking off out of the parking lot. I barely had time to look at their eyes, nose and gums to see if they were at least halfway healthy. The cage is one for rabbits with wire shelves, they had that cheapo food from Wal-Mart and no water!! Once we put them in my SUV and started off down the road this awful smell filled the truck. I told hubby that the first order of business for these two would be a bath!! On the way home we stopped at the store and while hubby was in there I got each of the girls out to check them out a little better. Found out that it wasn't them that smelled -- they both smelled like they'd just been bathed -- but that it's their hammock!! The fleece was brown with oil from their fur!! Their nails were like claws and when we picked them up the both felt like feathers in our hands. We've estimated that each one can't weigh more than six or eight ounces!! Anyway, once we figured out they weren't what was stinking we put them in our carrier that we'd brought with us that had a just washed blanket and hammie. The both settled right down and curled up together and went to sleep. As soon as we got home we threw that nasty cage out of my truck and then we cleaned ears and trimmed claws. Then we put them in the carrier with a bowl of water and a bowl of Marshall's. They drank several ounces of water each! Then one of them (they called her Kitty (ugh!) but we renamed her Abbie) dug into the food like she hadn't eaten in a week. The other one was called Bandit which definitely had to go. So we renamed her Brandy. She didn't take to the food quite as fast and hasn't eaten much yet. I'm going to put a little of the Wal-Mart food into their bowl so that she will eat. They don't even know what 'Tone is!! So I know they probably don't know what a treat is. Both girls are timid but seem to be good natured. Tomorrow I'm going to block off the hallway and bathroom and let them out to play. Once I see that they aren't sick I'll introduce them to Toby and Bethany. And tomorrow after they calm down I'll also get some pics and introduce them to you guys!!!
