Sorry this is late, but my birthday greetings are on my computer at work. So...
(Skippy, a ferret from Texas wearing an enormous cowboy hat, comes out.)
Texas Skippy: YEEEEEEEEYAAAAAAWWWWW!! Don't let me startle you, I'm just doin' a rebel yell heah to kinda kick this birthday celebration off, ya know what I mean?
(Texas Skippy begins to sing, with the backup of a chorus of Skippys in frilly yellow dresses and a snare drummer going RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
Texas Skippy: There's a yellow rose in Texas That I am going to see. Nobody else could miss her, Not half as much as me. She cried so when I left - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) pardon me. That's just a shade loud on the snare drum.
Chorus: She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew. Her eyes are bright as diamonds, They sparkle like the dew (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
Texas Skippy: See now you covered up “sparkle like the dew”, one of the loveliest parts in the whole - (singing) Texas is the only girl for me.
(Instrumental interlude with piccolos, until RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
Texas Skippy: He covered up the piccolos there. Where the Rio Grande - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) Where the Rio - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) Where - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) W - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
See, my feeling is that, uh, while I love a good snare (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) drum, I feel that volume wise it's just a little bit too much what you're doing there. See? See, see what I mean? Now you try and hold it there. I ‘preciate it. I ‘preciate it. (Snare drummer tones it down.)
Texas Skippy: Where the Rio Grande - I ‘preciate it! Where the Rio Grande is flowing And starry skies - Oh, that's better. She walks along the river On the quiet - Oh that's so much better! I know that she remembers When we parted long ago - You know that there's just a world of difference, mercy!
Chorus: She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew Her eyes are bright as diamonds They sparkle like the dew (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) Texas Skippy: See now you're slipping back into your old habits again. Why do you do that? Why do you - (singing) Texas is the only girl for me! I love a good snare drum but, you know -
Chorus: Tra-la-la-la-la- (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
Texas Skippy: Hold it hold it hold it! People, people, let's go back there, the snare drummer covered up the tra-la-las. We just do it again, smart aleck.
Chorus: Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la Tra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la Laaa-Laaaaa-Laaaaa
Texas Skippy: You see how lovely that turned out? Now that's a darlin’ part. OK banjo...yug-dugga-dugga. (Banjo player begins playing lively.) That's purty. That's purty. Oh now I'm gonna - that's purty. For my heart is full of woe We'll do the thangs together We did so long ago We'll play the banjo gaily She'll love me like - (Banjo begins going wild.) Excuse me, you ain't any kin to the snare drummer, are you?
Chorus: She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
Texas Skippy: Why do you do that? Why do you burst out like that? It irritates me. That irritates me. That irritates me, that's all. But the yellow rose of Texas - (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!) HOLD ON! HOLD ON! Hold on you smart aleck Yankee drummer you! You can cover up “yellow”, and you can cover up “rose”, Buddy Buddy, but don't you cover up TEXAS! Or I'll stick your head through that cotton-pickin’ snare drum and secede from the band so help me Mitch Miller I will!
(Some more Skippys in frilly yellow dresses come out carrying a long banner: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO LAURALEEME!)
Chorus (Building up to the finale): And the yellow rose of Texas will be mine- for- ever- more- (RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT! RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT!)
Texas Skippy: Cut it off there! The song’s over, you idiot! Stop it, stop it I say! Just STOP it, STOP it! I'm getting out of here! (A door slams). He ruined the ending, one of the loveliest parts in the whole (Opens door. RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT! RAT-TAT-TAT, RAT-TAT-TAT! Slams door again.) piece!
Hope you had a great birthday!!
