My poor little Sissy isn't doing too well. Her balance is getting worse. She can barely walk 2 steps now without falling over. She fell into the water dish the other night, and I had to help her back out of it. She has almost no control over her bowels and urine. I have to sponge bath her at least once a day. When I went to wash her last night, I noticed she has several blistered up areas on her belly, back legs, and tail. I work in a care home, so I know she is breaking down from being incontinent. I rubbed her down with salve last night to try and make her feel better. Her appetite is still good. She is still eating her kibble and lapping up her soupies. But pretty much all she ever does now is eat, sleep, and mess on herself.
I think it is almost time to take her for that final trip to the vet. I had my mind made up last night that I would call today and set up the appointment, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I know in my heart it is the right thing to do. It is just so d**n hard letting go.

Spacy Dear, My heart goes out to you. Poor little Calypso has come to the place where she relies on mommy for almost everything. I had the same thing with Nada, except Nada never developed the blistered areas on her back side you describe. I kept my little girlie going as long as she would eat before I'd let myself say goodbye to her. The morning my son drove me to the vet with my baby, Nada was so weak she wasn't even able to stand anymore. Nada was my very first ferret and so, so special to me. I am putting you and Calypso at the top of my prayer list, Spacy. God bless you and may He show you when to make that vet call and strengthen you when you do. Loving hugs, Greta

It is a hard decision to reach, it is even more difficult to watch them fade away. We lost our first, Princess Tiggy, that way and we had to one day make that choice. Have good thoughts of the time together and the joy you brought each other.

[glow=red,2,300] Spacey I know that is a heard one to make. I have made too many to last a lift time. I told the oldman next he is doing it not me. They say that God only give us of what we can handle. I don't know about you but I have had enough. Prayers are being sent out to you. May God confert your broken hear along with the rest here on the broad. Love and God bless. Sheila[/glow]

Such a difficult decision, how do we know when to let go. I think you will realize soon the situation she is in and as difficult as it is, will help her to get her wings. My prayers are with you. So often we have to make this decision.

I'm so sorry that your baby is failing. This is one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make. I know because I've had to make it so many times over the last 15 years. It tears my heart out every time I have to do it. Whenever I have to call and make an appointment to help one of my kids cross I'm usually crying so hard that it takes several minutes to complete the call. Several people have asked me how I know when it is really time to let a beloved pet go. I always tell them to look in their babies eyes. They will tell you when their time has come and they are ready to go to the Bridge. Like I said it is one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make but you can also look at it as being the most unselfish act of unconditional love that you can give to your ailing baby. And when the time does come and your baby has it's wings just remember that even though their physical body is gone that their spirit will live on forever in your heart. Make the most of the time the two of you have left together and smother Calypso with all of the love and care that you can. You and Calypso will be in my thoughts and prayers.
