My apologies as I haven't been around much lately ... but I had some problems with the Rose and she needed all my attention. Amy Rose is still not feeling well since January, so today, we went to the University for an ultrasound. Everything is normal in there except a little something on her left Adrenal gland. The tumor is very very small the vet said. No surprise for me, I knew that I was right ! So Rose got the Suprelorin implant after her ultrasound as she was still sleeping. It's located on the top of her neck between her 2 shoulders, just under the skin, we can easily see it, and it's big, it's about the size of an Advil gel capsule !!!!! We didn't see the procedure but the syringe is bigger than a pen, they had to make a hole in her skin to shoot the implant under. I have to keep an eye on this and be sure that it won't bleed. The vet said that if the implant works, it will control the adrenal symptoms for 1 year. She has faith that it will work because I have caught the disease in very early stage. In January until now, Rose's symptoms : lethargic, red vulva not enlarged, and I have seen very small vulva discharge 3 times. According to the blood tests 1 week ago, no infection so it had to be Adrenal disease. We did the ultrasound to confirm and to see if there was not something else going on at the same time. If everything goes well we go back in a month for a check up. Amy Rose is sleeping for now ... she's in the sick cage. I'll come back to give you news later ... the boys should wake up soon ! I haven't taken pics lately, but you can see Rose in my lastest video, I had bought that new blanket for her before bringing her in at the vet the fist time jan 29. s23.photobucket.com/albums/b394/Linkie2001/?action=view¤t=cc9d5145.pbrThanks for listening ... I'm sad that Rose is Adrenal, I had hope for her, but we have to expect this with Marshalls ferrets. Unfortunately, she won't live longer than Cookie RIP & Daisy RIP. Amy Rose is 2 years 3 months old. Linda XXX

Linda Dear, I'm so sorry to learn Rose has adrenal disease, although I know you were convinced this is the disease she is suffering from. On a brighter note, with the Suprelorin implant, Rose will have a healthy year .. a year in which something new may be developed to cure our babies from this awful illness. The implant sounds as if it's huge! Much larger than the rice grain size of the melatonin implant. If I gives Rose more time though, it's worth it. I am keeping your precious little girlie right at the top of my prayer list along with Yukka's little Munchkins and Dar's sweetie, too. God bless all of you. Loving hugs, Greta

Linda and you should also. Remember Frick my miracle man, adrenal, bladder full of stones, emergency surgery at 9, plus lymphoma and he was great until his last month at 9 1/2. If this implant is supposed to work for a year, what happens at the end of the year. Another implant? And then perhaps another year and so on, the power of prayer. Unfortunately it's not just the Marshall's. Don't know if you remember my Rocki who moved with my from Puerto Rico. He was conceived in my house, born at my friends, wasn't altered until he was about 8-9 months old and still was adrenal by the time he was 5. We need to get more of that strong UK ferret blood in our lines. Please keep us posted.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CARING ... it means so much ! I feel better now because Rose seems to be fine, she didn't play tonight, but I have given her some treats earlier and see how is she doing : s23.photobucket.com/albums/b394/Linkie2001/?action=view¤t=8ed389af.pbrAfter her treats, Amy Rose didn't go back in her sick cage ... she went back to sleep with Jack in the Ferret Nation cage, so as she was fine, not bleeding from the incision etc and as I was not able to separate them, she's sleeping with the boys right now. I just stay up a little to be sure she'll be OK. I took just one pic to show you, in Rose's new blanket, it will give you a better idea. The vet said that the syringe is about the size of a pen but the tip is bigger and the implant under her skin (see my red arrow) is about the size of that pill !!! Yes it's big but just remember that these Suprelorin implants are designed for dogs at first.

I think most vets always say...keep the ferret separated from the others after any kind of surgery. I think it all depends on the temperment of the other ferrets. I too have found that they seem to recouperate faster in the company of their friends

Glad to know she seems to recover well. It is so so big, I will be afraid to move it under the skin by cuddles, hugs and playing time ... Thank you for the pic and update. Kisse to the little lady Yukka

I am so sorry to hear she is adrenal but I have to disagree that its a life sentence, I know of many who live a long full life with adrenal. You caught it early and the drug you are using is excellent, I only wish it were available here. With the care she is receiving she will be with you a long long time. My little asia was adrenal at 6 months old, after a surgery and with lupron she is still with us and feeling better than she ever has in her life. ((((((((hugs))))))))))

Amy Rose is in my thoughts & prayers. Five of mine have the implants but I don't think they were that big...not sure. I was told that most of them last from 18 months up to 3 yrs and then you get another one. My "kids" that have them are in the 4-6 yrs of age range. They are NOT marshall ferrets but did come from pet stores(rescues)....I think they came from Triple F farms. She's such a beauty....I hope she'll be with you for a few more years.

Oh thank you all again so much for your caring and great understanding, here's my little update. Huronna ... I know what you mean, Rose has been in the sick cage during the day and as she was top shape last night, has slept with the boys, but don't worry everything went well as the cage here is a sleeping area only, not a place to play. Rose has been lethargic for quite awhile now, the boys are used to it, and they don't bother her, they let her have some rest when she needs it. When I've checked on them this morning ... Jack was sleeping with the Rose, as usual, they always sleep together (King Boo Boo likes to have HIS own bed, he lets the lovers alone LOL) Jack is keeping an eye on her Rose he says She seems to be top shape, still sleeps more than usual but I swear, she doesn't look tired like she was in the last few days ... something is different in her eyes, I can see, she really seems to be better. She kinda has more energy ! Yukka, I have just softly touched the implant, it's kinda moving under the skin a bit, so I've stopped LOL I wanted to see if it was painful for Rose but no, it's ok. When her hairs will grow back, you won't be able to tell that she has an implant until you feel it. Now Joyce ... I hope that you'll come back, I'd like to know some things like Yukka ...Do you have to be more careful with you handle your ferrets with the implants ? I mean if you have to scruff them for meds ? Do we have to supervise them always when they play together, so they won't bite their necks where their implant is located ? Did your vet tell you if they have to remove the old implant to add a new one when it's needed ? (I know that with the melatonin implants, they let them in there without any problem, but the melatonin implants are way much smaller than the Suprelorin ones) I'll keep you updated, and when I'll get more infos on the implants from the vet I'll let you know ! Thank you again for listening

WOW I am really impressed by the implant so far ... I need to tell you !!!! OK Rose has got it on Monday and she has already changed, she has more and more energy, she stays up longer and she has even played with the boys this morning and tonight !!!!!! Unbelievable !!!! Is that thing already working !?! Well it seems that something is going on in the Rose !!! It's really not easy to take a good pic ... I had to stretch the skin a little but you can easily see that the implant is about the lenght of my middle finger last part. It doesn't seem to bother the Rose though, even if I touch it. We'll get used to it I think, it's like an extra bone Rose says ! Fingers crossed that she'll continue to get better ... I'll keep you updated !
