Usually it is an easy peasy deal here. My husband sits on the bed and holds a ferret belly outwards. They love him holding them this way and don't even realize I'm cutting their nails. Well since June 12th my husband has been in the hospital and today was the second time that I had to do it alone.
All my other ferrets were easy as they loved nutrical and I could sit on the floor, put a line of it on my knee and they would lick and I would clip. Well neither Powder nor Scout like nutrical but they love ferret tone. But ferret tone doesn't just sit there is runs down your leg. So they keep changing their positions, like running after a ferret paw. But success and all 40 have been done for another two weeks. Maybe hubby will be home by then as his two week rehab may be finished and they may say he is ready to come home.

I understand cutting ferret nails alone. It can be challenging. I was lucky. My first ferret vet had ferrets. She also ran a ferret rescue. She told me to put the ferret on my lap belly up and apply tone to the ferret belly. I have been doing this since 1997 and so far it has worked well. Sometimes I have to add more tone so I can finish clipping.

I'm sorry hubby is in the hospital. I lay a ferret in my lap in his back and apply a few drops of tone to the belly, same as Dee. My biggest problem is my vision isn't what it was and I have drawn some blood so Dar has taken over that task. Keep some styptic handy.
