I've checked in on the board, but haven't posted in a while. So I thought it was time for an update!
First the not so good. Back in January, my little girl Bella went to the Bridge. She was one of a pair I adopted from a ferret shelter. They had been there almost 2 years due to biting issues. Funny thing is....once I got them home, no biting! In fact, Bella became the world's best turbo kisser. Bella developed a rapidly growing tumor in her belly. Nothing to do for it but to spoil her rotten. So I did. She got soup 2-3 times a day and all the tone she wanted. I gave her soup one night before I went to work, and when I came home in the morning she didn't greet me as normal. I found her in her favorite sleeping spot under the couch, already gone. I miss her terribly, but am comforted knowing she has been reunited with her sister Rosie. My "Tiny Terrors" are together again.
Losing Bella brought me down to 5 ferrets. And I was perfectly happy with that. But we all know how ferret math works. And how the ones that need us have a habit of finding their way home. About a month ago, a casual friend messaged me on Facebook. Her son's Grandma is going through a divorce, and may have to file bankruptcy, and needed a home for her 3 ferrets...... Well, I'm sure you can guess how it turned out. LOL They are all about 3 1/2 yrs old. I got them last Sunday. I am keeping them confined to the ferret room for now, mainly because I knew I was going out of town this weekend. I have been bringing the other 5 in for intros 1 or 2 at a time. So far it is going good. A few minor squabbles, but nothing major. I actually had all 8 together for a while the other day and it went OK. When I get home Sunday I will probably be turning them loose from the ferret room to free roam with the rest. The sad part is they really don't seem to know how to play. But I'm sure as they relax and get more interaction they will figure it out! So without further ado, meet.....
Molly
She is very petite. She is the most shy of the three. She has spent a lot of time hiding in the 5 ft drain tube. But she is the only one of the 3 that likes tone. In face she LOVES it!! So she is easy to lure out. She is very sweet!
Herman
I was told he was a biter. I noticed after he was only there a short time that he really didn't have a mask. Looked at his eyes and they are burgundy. Did a squeak test and he's deaf. So I have been careful to make sure he sees me before I touch him, and he hasn't tried to bite me yet. In fact, he gave me good arm kisses the other day. A lick lick without the chomp lol. The pic doesn't show it well, but he is a gorgeous cinnamon color.
"Emma"
When I was approached about taking the ferrets, I was told it was 2 girls and a boy. I had them maybe 5 minutes and I looked at "Emma" sniffing around the room and thought "Hmmm, that one doesn't look very 'girlish'" So I checked the belly, and sure enough he has a "belly button" I'm still not sure on what his new name will be. Something close to the name he has lived with for almost 4 years. I'm thinking maybe Ember, or just Emmer. He is the most outgoing of the three, and gets along best with my other ferrets. He was also very proud of himself the other day because he figured out how to climb to the very top of the 3 level ferret nation.
It does shock me a little that somebody can have animals for almost 4 years and not realize one is deaf and the other is a boy, not a girl! They were being fed a not so good diet (purina one fishy dry at food) But they took to my high quality grain free kibble quite well. They are quite the little piggies, actually. Em has a little bit of rat tail. And all their coats a little rough feeling. Hopefully with good food they will get all soft and fluffy like the rest!
