Ran into the pet store owner at the store. The little sick girl is hanging in there. She said the day after I showed her how to make soup, she thought she was going to lose her. SHe said she didn't want to eat at all. But I had showed her how to syringe, so she did that and now she is back to drinking her soupies. She said she offered the ferret a kibble by hand, and she snatched it up, but then couldn't seem to be able to chew it. So she has been grinding the kibble up and adding it to the soup, and is going to try her on some kibble mush. I thought the ferret looked awful small, and I think she is one that was sent out underage from Marshall's. One of her eyes has cleared up, and she said the other is starting to look better. She is using saline and a cotton ball in between the eye drops to clean it. There have been a lot of nasty colds and flu going around up here, and I think she picked up a virus from a visitor to the store. She said she is a little better on the biting. And her son said "Yeah, but only with her" Guess she has learned not to bite the hand that feeds her LOL
BTW she has been calling her "Spunky" She said she is trying not to get attached. But when I asked her if she was going to be putting her up for sale she said "probably not" LOL

Really why don't they take her to the vets? This isn't fair for this little girl. It make me so mad that people just don't need to sell ferret if they don't know how to care for them or even take them to the drs.

They had taken her to the vet. He gave them perscription eye drops for her goopy eyes. But did not give them any info on how to make soups or anything like that. (we don't have an "exotics" vet up here) The owners have been taking the ferret home with them at night so they can soup her. When she was doing really bad, Brenda set an alarm and got up every 3 hours to feed her.

I think Brenda is doing everything she can and that is a good thing. Boy I know about being in areas without a vet. All the time I was in Puerto Rico I was in that situation. I even remember when I got Rocki and he has to be fixed and the anal glands removed, I brought in the ferret anatomy book with me so he could double check what he's be looking for in a tiny little thing

I'm glad to hear she's making it. A little one could take longer to battle a flu.

Wow too bad you guys couldn't go to a Univ. and find someone who is going to be a vet and get them to know about ferrets and bring him to you city. I have talked with allot of vet studnets and told them that we are in need of specle vets for ferrets. I sure hope they do. U of I is one of the largest vet meds collages in the U.S. Of A.

I got Ali from Petco and let me tell you they have no idea! My Ali was so small and not getting to eat much due to the other 5, double her size and in a enclosure that is glass with only holes in the locked metal top. When I got her home I noticed she was sneezing allot so I took her to the vet and she has an upper respiratory infection, so on antibiotics we are in the third day and she is getting much better. When I asked the gentleman, who supposely knew about them, what they were eating he said she could eat any ferret food. Now I figured she was on Marshell's food but which kind so I found another worker who helped me. I told the manager she should teach her people alittle better. When I got her paper work I knew I got the wrong one since she is not a February 24th baby she is too young, so I called Marshells asked if they had records they did not (which I told them how do you stay in business if you do not keep records! After I told them when she arrived they said her birth date was March 10th which I think is closer. I ordered Evo Ferret and Wysong for her, I got the Evo started putting it in her food she is doing well with it. The Wysong will be in this week. Her and I spend allot of time together one on one she is my little girl my Mother present to myself! LOL
